Just curious...why UMASS for just the Olympic sports? UMASS could already knock off some of our so called "bottom dwellers" in football.
Assuming 16 is the magic number, who would you drop in favor of UMass football?
I'm not sure why we'd rush to 16. With realignment, who knows what's going to happen with the Big 12.
UMASS offers 3x, and Old Dominion 4x the attendance numbers of Nova (at 5K). And both offer the AAC a new market, and football teams that have a better chance to compete at the AAC level than Nova.
We don't add Nova for the same reason that BIG added Rutgers. It's about the market for the product being delivered by the conference. I'd stay at 14, replace Nova with ODU, and monitor what's about to happen to the Big 12. Obviously, this assumes that BYU has no interest in joining.

If we are discussing projects, ODU is way more geared to a conference upgrade over nova or Umass. They already sell out their small stadium every game, better recruiting area, and decent hoops.

If I had my way, we'd be taking Georgetown over nova AND ODU but their facilities are worse than nova if it could be believed. Not to mention they have no FBS aspirations

Where exactly would they play?
PPL Park will suffice for the first few years. Then they could pay to have it expanded to seat 30k.

Why the hell would they pay to expand a stadium they don't own?

Agreed, and why would they pay to expand a stadium when they can't fill their existing 12K OCS stadium.

I heard they are building a 250 million OCS.

RE: How about Nova hiring a football oriented AD?
Nova, along with Georgetown, led the charge to split off from the rest of the AAC. They want nothing to do with us. And if they do---I say let Nova rot in FCS. Their fans can follow Temple if they want to see live FBS football.
EDIT----As I suspected, Nova doesn't want FBS----
Both he and the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, Villanova's president, quickly squelched any inference that Jackson's hiring might be the first step toward possibly moving football back to I-A. Just in case.
"I wasn't really looking at that," Donahue said. "We made a particular choice several years ago now to move into the Big East in a different way, when the basketball schools joined together. That's the continued direction we're going in."
Later, when it was Jackson's turn to tackle the elephant in the room, he added: "That decision has been vetted by the school. Everybody's happy where we're at, happy to have the No. 4 [FCS] team in the country [in the preseason poll]. That's kind of my mindset.
"Don't let the background be indicative that we're moving anywhere in football. That's not the case."

Villanova has a better chance to land in the Patriot League once Talley retires than FBS football. Seriously, I think they'll be in the scholarship PL within 5 years....

every single AD in the aac has quotes like that...and you are acting like no one is looking outside because of those quotes
actions are louder than words..and vill has pushed to move its football to fbs numerous time while in the big east and looked like an inevitability when the big east was still happening..their BOR voted yes on the FBS on one their pushes....
even when the old teams left and it was the current line up (before fox offered them tv money to split) they didnt rule it out but said theyd be cautious about it
don't let those quotes fool\l you, it simply means there arent c anyonference they can put their football in...no g5 is doing football only for fcs come ups anymore and theyd lose ridiculous money going full in on any g5
if we said we'd consider taking them as a football only member theyd push extremely hard for that..if we made 6mil+ in our new deal, theyd secretly lobby to join the AAC

They'll play in Franklin Field. Since it's the ACC it'll be a genius move by John "Genius" Swofford, Ph.D., M.D., Ninja-Wizard.

On that point we agree. When Nova had the shot to move up (and they had several swings at the piƱata), they refused to make any real serious financial commitment to the move. That's why it failed to win support (even among the other very supportive basketball schools). And mind you---this is a school that was born on 3rd base and would get to jump not just to FBS from FCS---but directly to a BCS league from FCS. Are you kidding me? They had that opportunity and refused to put any enough financial commitment behind it? Like you said, ACTIONS are louder than words.
So no, I don't see them suddenly walking away from the Big East, investing 100-150 million to renovate their stadium to FBS standards, just to play in a G5 league that they publically dismissed as beneath them a short 2 years ago.
