Why? UCF should feel good if they can get the trophy from the Huskies and hold onto it for a year. The last time I checked, the UConn-UCF series is tied at 1-1.

Maybe UConn should destroy it when we win again this year. We can put mouse ears on it, strap some oranges to it, and then blow it up with a rocket launcher.

if UCF gets it, maybe they could do an "island of misfit trophies" themed area at dizzyworld and Memphis could ship down the old "battle for the bones" trophy to keep it company.

Really? This whole conference is an island of misfit toys with no common history that was thrown together by necessity. Anyway, the reason that UConn doesn't have history with a lot of the schools here is that we (thankfully) were never in CUSA. All of our old Big East rivals are now in the ACC (Pitt, Syracuse, Louisville) or B1G (Rutgers). So, those options for rivalry games are off the table. The only remaining school that we have a balanced football history with is USF (Cincy has our number in football). UConn is just trying to make lemonade out of lemons here by manufacturing interest in an additional game against an opponent who has national respect lately and is in a large television market (Orlando). It is actually a shrewd move by Diaco, even if he executed it poorly (it should have been coordinated with UCF).

What celebrated AAC conference rivalry game for ECU is the whole country anxiously holding their breath for?

The UConn-UCF game will likely be one of most nationally watched conference games this year. Mark it down.

None, and we aren't making any up. If UConn returns to respectability in football, rivalries will develop naturally. Quite honestly, 20 years of division 1 football isn't enough to develop a true rivalry with anybody. It would have made much more sense for your AD and coach to go behind the scenes and work with a school close by (Temple) to try to develop a rivalry instead of manufacturing one.

What's not civil about this? Do Penn State fans not get excited to watch OSU v. Michigan? Do Bama fans not get excited to watch the World's Largest Cocktail Party? Do Florida fans not get excited for the Iron Bowl? Do Baylor fans not enjoy Oklahoma v. Texas?

As much as it pains me to say it, the UCF game seems to be heading towards a rivalry. There's almost enough history and its getting closer to an even record with UCF winning the past couple. I can live with that since UCF and ECU were constantly at the top of CUSA east after USM had their slide.

Navy has potential, but with them being in the west I don't think there will be enough continuity if either team has a downturn and the other wins 4-5 games in a row.

The UConn-UCF game would have been more exciting if Diaco had created a trophy that the loser has to take for the year and keep in their locker room. It would have a countdown clock where, every hour on the hour, it would blare this incredibly painful song:
