RE: Lines in the Sand (C-USA)- Week 1
(08-22-2015 08:06 AM)Cnelson203 Wrote:  With continuing thanks to PirateTreasureNC, who started this tradition over a decade ago, it's time to publish the second annual installment of Lines in the Sand -- a weekly "pick-em" poll of all C-USA games. As last year, this will be a straight up pick (although I'll try to publish latest point spreads for informational purposes). Just pick the winner. I'll keep track of both weekly and cumulative winners and announce them at the end of all games for the week.

Last season, nastybunch was our season leader in correct picks, and won that coveted title, going away in the last week. Can he repeat? If he does, or doesn't, this weekly contest generated some interesting pre-game discussions. Here's hoping that continues. As with last year, I'll accept entries up until kick off. If you submit an entry past any games' kick off, that games (and any prior games) will not count in the final tally. That seemed to work well, last year.

There are 12 games on tap this week (North Texas is off). Point spreads this week are from http://www.oddsshark.com/ncaaf/bowl-odds.

Thursday, September 3

FIU @ UCF (-16.5); 6:00 ET; CBSSN
Western Kentucky @ Vanderbilt (-1.5); 8:00 ET; SEC Network; Watch ESPN
UTSA @ Arizona (-31.5); 10:00 ET; PAC12 Network;

Friday, September 4
Charlotte @ Georgia State (-5.5); 3:30 PM; ESPNU, WatchESPN

Saturday, September 5
Old Dominion (-7) @ Eastern Michigan; 3:00 ET; ESPN3
Wagner @ Rice (NL); 3:30 ET; American SN
FAU @ Tulsa (-7.5); 3:30 ET; CBSSN
UTEP @ Arkansas (-33); 3:30 ET; ESPNU, WatchESPN
Southern @ LaTech (NL); 7:00 ET; American SN
Jackson State @ Middle Tennessee (NL); 7:00 ET: No TV posted
Mississippi State (-23.5) @ Southern Miss; 10:00 ET; FoxS1

Sunday, September 6
Purdue @ Marshall (-7.5); 3:00 ET; FoxS1

Have fun, folks!

We used to be arrogant like some of the Marshall fans, but the last three years has cured that. After Marshall loses to Purdue it ought to quiet down in here a lot...lol

we sucked from 2002 thru 2012 so we know both conditions. I am a every day fan.....been reading every day practice reports and I know my team much better than you do. We will roll.

I give them the credir they deserve with the record they have and the players returning. My estimation is closer to how the betting goes than yours. They prob with this team would have beaten us here before 2012 but even up there with a new QB we scored 40 on them. That Herd team allowed over 40 pts a game(2012) but less than 25 since. Just admit your posting what you would like to see happen not really your best guess.

FIU @ UCF - would love to see the upset, but will be tough at Bright House field
Western Kentucky @ Vanderbilt - Toppers must win if they are going to start living up to billings
UTSA @ Arizona - best bet for RoadRunners is to keep it close
Charlotte @ Georgia State - want to pick 49ers, but GAST has more experience
Old Dominion @ Eastern Michigan - must win for the Monarchs and C-USA
Wagner @ Rice - easy win for the Owls.
FAU @ Tulsa - not at all sure about this pick. Tulsa has new coach
UTEP @ Arkansas - see comments on UTSA game
Southern @ LaTech - should be an easy win
Jackson State @ Middle Tennessee - Another easy win
Mississippi State @ Southern Miss - but Golden Eagles will play tough for three quarters
Purdue @ Marshall - Herd needs to take this with new QB

Overall C-USA will go 7-5.

Ucf squeaks out a win over Fiu.
Wku better win after all the chest pounding by it's fans over Vandy
Arizona much too much for poor Utsa especially in the desert.
GaSt. too much experienced over Charlotte
East Michigan over Ol' Domino, good experience for their QB
Rice will kill that old Wagner Tool Company. I didn't even know they played football.
Fau will win only because of the new coach over Tulsa
Arkansas will have their pooters pucker after beating Utep, it'll be close.
La Tech will roll over (who are they playing again?) oh yeah, Southern.
Mid Tennesse will win against the Jackson Five
Mississippi St. will win a close one to a much improved So.Miss
Marshall wil struggle because of new QB but will win against Purdue

A guy doing this much work all season for our enjoyment should not have a reputation under 100. Show your appreciation, people.

And USM has another losing season.

C-USA had about zero regular season wins last year over the Big 5. You've got to prove to me that the league is better this year.
