So when do you all think the new President is going to start making some noise and announce some plans? I know that we have a consulting firm doing a system wide analysis of all UT campuses/facilities and they will be coming up with recommendations for utilization of space to reduce the overall amount and expense and to better use current buildings and future buildings (such as the proposed alumni center). My sense is that Scott Park buildings could get the ax. Any thoughts on what else is going on?

The buildings at Scott Park are not part of the two main campuses so logistics and synergies are not shared. Are they very modern buildings or would they need a lot of work?

Well, one is kind of like a mini shopping mall. Actually maybe, not that mini. The classrooms, hated those. They were a hodge podge of shapes, everyone crammed in. But it had a nice big hallway, good lounging areas..... Lots of goose crap. It would get trucked inside the building by students. The other building, I don't know. Seemed mostly offices. If the need for class and research space is there, Scott Park seems functional. But there's so much class space on main campus, other than a research space need I wonder why Scott Park is kept? Maybe it could be an incubator?

I have heard from two sources that the new President is making a very big and lasting impression on faculty, students, alumni....all of which can be donors. She has already had many events at the Presidents home, been traveling to alumni events, seen all over campus, etc. Anyone heard the same?

Saw her at Walgreens. Was with her son? Looked like a nice lady.

Not sure what about my post got your response, seems kind of unrelated but I guarantee you this; if they're looking at me for donations, they're at the desperate for pennies stage, lol. I'll put em in my will though, price of copper keeps going up!

Pretty sure she had a son who was a high school senior last year. He could be attending UT. Also has a daughter at Arkansas and one at some state school in Oklahoma.

In the past few weeks, I’ve been meeting with colleges and other divisions. At each meeting, I’ve been laying out my goals for UT:

1. We will raise the standing of the University on the national stage, and we will do that by investing in the academic and research core of the institution. We’re going to celebrate and recognize on a greater level the thousands of accomplishments of our students, faculty, researchers and alumni.

2. We’re going to increase the numbers and the academic preparedness of students enrolling at UT, put programs in place to support and retain them as they take robust curricula, and make sure they graduate on time.

3. UT will recommit to increasing externally funded research, advancing scholarship, and demonstrating for the world the new knowledge that we discover.

4. We will increase our fundraising efforts to fund more student scholarships, establish endowed chairs and professorships, develop academic programs and initiatives, and fund new and renovated facilities. I mentioned Sam earlier. Sam and his team will be working with the college deans and units across campus to do this.

5. The University also will be working to reduce administrative costs over time to ensure a UT education remains financially accessible for students.
