ECU took non qualifiers for many years in CUSA and got invited to the American.

And we shouldn't have. No school should. If they can't make the grades out of high school, tough ****.

If Marshall wants to take these kids and give them a shot it's fine, as long as they aren't breaking any rules like they do in other places where they have to create fake classes and have faculty change grades.

Marshall is at a severe disadvantage by not being in an Autonomy Five conference and they use this to even the playing surface. As long as it's allowed, who cares?

People care because it's a mockery, especially for legitimate students who are there for academic purposes. Any loose standard for athletes pisses me off frankly. That includes at ECU... and we still have them.

The real problem Marshall has is the absurd rate at which they admit them in the 1st place.

Glad to be your athletic departments historic win. Funny ECU doesn't do this on the WVU, VTech, NC State, UNC, Miami, South Carolina...etc pages.

Act like you been there before. We have and still lead our series with you. Bumpkin.

Lol.

No. We've never had a NQ on scholarship. The last time we took one was likely in our Big West days (~'98).

FWIW, the MWC (like the AAC) doesn't allow NQ's.

The MWC stopped allowing NQ's in 2003.

It's something that should be looked at considering all G5s are competing for a NYD Bowl game. Marshall is doing it with thugs that can't read while the other two conferences (MWC and AAC) don't.

If it works for Marshall and allows some kids to play college football (and maybe get a degree?) who otherwise wouldn't, who cares. I don't want UC to take this route, but if it works for Marshall, more power to em'.

That Kansas State team was the Big12 champ. Blah blah blah, anyways... I was making fun of your fellow ECU but pirate above trying to sound cool by rattling off some "P5" schools ECU has beaten in the past. Until we meet again, guess what?

Agreed ECU did it. At that time it was not as uncommon. Teams like ECU, TCU, Lville among others were doing what they could to make a name anyway possible given their circumstances. It worked out well for TCU and Lville and they were able to phase out of that system(conference regulations). At one point Amato (NCSU coach) was saying we had an unfair recruiting advantage when we could take a couple NQ's a year. Well 20m+ media revenue, strong schedule(in conference) are also recruiting advantages. But any day week year ECU would be their to play ncsu or whoever else regardless of the disadvantages.

I am glad on principle we do not have NQ's, Sure some last minute signee's who were on the boarder and did the summer school thing. But on the other hand if all G5 banded together and said we all would accept NQ's(within reason) I could care less about what P5 thought of it. Unless you are on the cusp of potential P5 move up(Uconn, Cincy etc) I would use the system to our(G5) advantage.

We also only took them from the state of North Carolina. Granted, there is no recruiting base in WV. The other thing about our taking Non Qualifiers is they would routinely not cut it in the classroom and never see the field. At places like Marshall, no one flunks out.

We got you bro ECU. 8 in a row Marshall now go back to the baby conference board and try not to choke away a schedule full of cupcakes again this year.

Yes...and since AAC doesn't have specific rules against enrolling non-qualifiers, it still could be happening today at ECU Football or ECU Basketball...2 programs that have enrolled non-qualifiers in the past.
