It’s Birdsong’s turn to fly as Marshall’s QB
In the latter stages of his great Marshall career, quarterback Rakeem Cato cultivated great chemistry with his receivers in particular and the entire offense as a whole.

The results are well documented, from all that passing yardage to the 35-18 record over four years.

Now, it’s Michael Birdsong’s turn to bond with his receivers, linemen and the coaches. Cultivating the chemistry in the summer was a point of emphasis for the former James Madison thrower, who seized the starting role in the spring.

Litton shouldn't be battling Holcombe for #2. He needs to be redshirted to maximize his time here. Plus, Holcome proved to be a capable back up QB, should Birdsong get dinged up.

I agree. Ive only disagreed with Holliday on one decision and that was playing Cato as a true freshman. He knew that AJ Graham wasn't going to be on the team the next year but he should have taken advantage of him when he was there in 2011 and let Cato Redshirt. He does that Cato is most likely 28-5 over the last 2 years and still have 13-14 games to play.

Redshirt Litton, put him in the weight room, feed him the playbook and see if he can unseat Birdsong next spring. I would rather lose a few games with a RS JR than with a freshman that will also lose whole year of eligibility because he's playing garbage time.

Who knows what would have happened if he did that. Maybe Cato sucks his sophomore season? Maybe he transfers somewhere because he got pissed? Who knows. It worked out amazing to start him as a true freshman.
