win or lose I'm pretty much over it by a couple of hours. the only one that really really got to me was the 2001 Cincinnati game. GMAC bowl in the press box ready to invite us, all we have to do is hold on a 4th and 27 and the bowl drought is snapped.

F'ing Gino....

I took a long walk in the parking lot after that one.

I'm ok with Chalmers. its D. Arthur I'm mad about. the MF'er didn't even graduate high school but they keep that trophy. I say to this day if we won that game, Kansas would have gotten in NCAA trouble instead of us, but they sure weren't going to strip a title - even if it was ours

Memphis let Tennessee & Alabama slip off the hook several times. We are 3-2 vs the hawgs.

Ever punched a wall, ignored a call from spouse, yell at someone, etc?

I know ECU's loss to Arkansas made me a different person for a couple of hours.

In a word. Yes. I've been rather ludicrous at times as a younger fan. My age and my wife have thankfully helped some sanity return.

Right, age and the experience of suffering through multiple disappointing losses buffers over reactions in most folks. This forum, in most cases, is a testament to your comment.

Nope. I try to base most fan analysis on reason and logic. The only thing that makes me angry is coaches being irrational. Bill Blankenship's play calls were irrational. There was no logic to them. 3rd and long? I think I'll run the ball.

To be fair, lots of coaches sometimes run on 3rd and long to try and catch the defense off guard via a draw or something. It reduces risk of a turnover trying to force something that isn't there trying to get that first on 3rd and long. There are some logical reasons to run in a situation like that and coaches in the NFL make that decision frequently when the yardage to gain seems insurmountable.

In my youth I broke many things in fits of rage. Not so much anymore. Being a UCF fan back in the day was incredibly heart breaking. There is a reason that some people refer to us as UCiF fans. We were the kings of the 4th quarter choke and the moral victory. That is why the Fiesta Bowl was a giant 2 1/2 hour orgasm. Once you experience that kind of victory, it takes the edge off of everything else.

When you're down 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter? I understand being conservative, but Bill really was an inept playcaller when it mattered most.

I cried for the first time as an adult when ECU beat Boise State in the Hawaii Bowl.

So, yeah.

RE: Has being a fan made you an irrational person?
Irrational in the sense that when ECU has a great win, I become totally focused on football and not on other more important things / family in my life.

Irrational in the sense that a bad (or unexpected) ECU loss can ruin my weekend.

Irrational (or maybe rational) that I stop visiting here when that happens too and lose interest in talking football for a couple of days.

In either case, Monday comes and I get hit with real world problems / realities that bring back a normal perspective.

Is more or less temporary irrationality.

Indiana knocking us out of the tournament in 2013, after Oladipo hit the 3 that sealed it. Or 2007 against UCONN in football

I took a cowbell away from a miss state fan and threw it at their costumed mascot on the field when we played them in Memphis 30 years ago. Damn that bell was annoying.

I wasn't as nice a guy back then as I am now. More fun but not as nice

The marching band stole UT's footballs in 92. They didn't appreciate that...
