Everyone knows higher star ratings = better teams. Just look at UF

Yeah, if ECU fans are going to downplay recruiting rankings while saying we haven't caught up to everyone else in recruiting, you guys better not ever post a thread about a 4* recruit going to ECU.

It's stupid for anyone to post boasting about getting a 4* or 5* recruit. Act like you've been there before. Those threads looks very "small-time".

That's not the point.
1. The recruiting services are way overrated and geared to fans, not the coaches recruiting. We had a QB who was in that Super11 or whatever you call it QB camp, highly rated. He came to ECU...and he sucked, bad.
2. Outside of the 5* and high 4* it ijust opinions on what these kids COULD do. I find it hard to differentiate between 3* and 2*. Just an arbitrary number IMO.
3. It's about coaching, development and the players work ethic. Not how many stars. I'm still waiting on USF to do something with all these high ranking recruits. They have had a poor run on bad coach(es) (who stunt development). And their success on the field supports that.

You mean like this thread?
#1 Overton isn't coming here, not even considering us. And #2 even if he did commit, you may see someone start a thread but I d*$% sure wouldn't.
I mean come on, you have to admit that it looks really CUSAish to brag about everything P5 transfer or some 4/5* commit. If we want to be looked at as equals to the P5 we need to start acting like it. Would I be happy if they did? Absolutely, the majority of the time highly ranked players are legit. But there isn't a need to go around telling everyone, ooo ooo look what we got.

yes exactly like tha houston thread...its not c-usaish it the majority of college football-ish
there are maybe 7 teams in all of college football that wouldnt get excited about getting a 4star recruit..and i guarantee 100% teams get excited about getting 5star players and will make threads in all related forums after getting them
look at syracuse..when okorn decided he wanted to transfer and he said he was considering syracuse they made like 4 threads talking about him and getting excited about it...yes they were getting excited about getting a 3star who was benched in a AAC team
ohio state is the #1 recruiting class in the nation, and has 1 5star recruit
their are 15 5star a year on average....their are 60+ p5 teams, if you dont think a p5 would make threads and brag about getting a 5 star you are naive
i personlly love the fact when you go the espn 300 list you see a UH commit on top..it brings a smile to my face :)

Apparently you didn't bother to read where I said I absolutely would be excited. Getting a top 300 player is pretty close to sure fire elite talent. I just don't understand why there has to be a thread about it every time someone gets one but to each his own I guess.

Going down that list... the fact that Houston has 2 top 50 commits is incredible. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt any other school in the conference has accomplished that in the past 20 years. UH will be a force to reckon with as long as Herman is around.
Penn State and Miami look like they might be on the way back to their glory days. They have a ton of elite talent coming in... surely that will amount to something. Also, Ole Miss looks to have maybe dug themselves out of the SEC basement for good.

They may be brought down to reality in the next few years. I highly doubt all those highly coveted recruits all decided to pick Ole Miss in the same time frame on their own. Just a hunch.

I've got to be honest, I just briefly skimmed over the other posts in this thread. I just don't get all the recruiting pissing matches. What I do know, is I've got October 22nd circled on my calendar. I can't wait to get some payback on Temple on a Thursday night game in Dowdy-Ficklen!

coaches care about the quality of recruits they get and want the higher ranked ones.....some of you guys are in denial...look at your offer list, you arent getting them but your coaches are definitely offering them..ive seen every coach in this league who's gotten a touted 4star brag about getting them, even oleary did for tristan payton... ucf has made a living off lower touted guys, but oleary himself will tell you he wants higher touted recruits to make his job easier
ecu just happened to pass on every 4star high school recruit?? ...please name the 4star high school recruit ecu passed on that it could got if it wanted? honestly with ruff you are even targeting higher rated guys..pre ruff it was almost exclusively very low 3star, 2star and unrated players..since ruff youve picked up a number of high rated 3stars prospects
some of you guys dont understand scoutiing ratings work...they just mean how college ready are you in size and skill...THAT'S ALL, it doesnt mean better..it doesnt mean just put them on the field and you win..
every college recruit needs development, higher rated ones just need less development..and no matter how developed you are you have to be put in a good system
people point to jj watt being a 2star and how recruit rankings mean nothing..but the reality is jj watt was a tooth pick in high school, he gained an extreme amount of muscle in college (development)
And you think that scout, rivals, 247 and ESPN have enough scouts to accurately evaluate every potential FBS athlete? That they're just out to evaluate talent for the love of the game and not in the money making business and don't cater to popular programs or conferences with larger fan bases? That talent in and around a large metro is more accessible and probably evaluated more accurately vs rural talent. Yes, someone is in denial.
The reality is somewhere in the middle. Highly ranked recruits are great, but evaluating and developing talent are just as important if not more so. Case and point:
"Generally, there are about 275 to 300 four-star prospects annually, which means the great bulk of players who sign with colleges each season -- about 85 percent -- are two- or three-star guys"
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000...igh-school
my denial is the the team that has averaged the most #1 recruiting classes in the nation, coincidentally has most the most national championships aswell
no one is denying that players fall through the cracks, it happens
but i find it funny people try to discredit the entire system based around the few that slip through the craps..."recruit rankings are meaningless" is laughable
and i find it funny its normally teams that struggle to recruit making these arguments...
yes you can overcome alot with development and a systems that compensate for talent (aka the air raid or triple option) but i guarantee you those coaches would take developing those better talents and putting better athletes in those systems
Crazy how Alabama, OSU, etc have the best rated classes and also the most success on the field, imagine that! Of course the rankings don't apply to ECU until they land a 4* then I'm sure we'll all hear about it again and again.
Using Alabama and OSU or any team that pulls multiple 5* athletes doesn't prove your point. 5 star athletes are so few and far between that they are highly likely to have been evaluated properly. If a guy is a 5 star there is no doubt, he changes the game, he's heard of regardless of where he hails. From Po-dunk to Houston it doesn't matter. The 2s, 3s, and to some extent 4s are far less a guarantee. As I said before, the reality is somewhere in the middle. I don't discredit the entire system, I just don't value it more than a coach's ability to evaluate and develop. If ECU lands a 4 or 5 star awesome, but it it will likely only be one or two and the rest are 3s. Despite Houstons impressive run, the majority of the team (same for Temple and the rest of the AAC) are 3s. Ergo, evaluating and development are much much more important than stars.

For recruiting rankings I think there is a bigger difference between #1 and #20 than there is between #20 and #60. Recruiting rankings matter, but not as much as some of you think. I don't think there is a huge difference unless you're in the top 10 or 15.

i kinda agree but not necessarily...nebraska, wisconsin, oregon Tennessee are outside of the top 15 but will out talent most of everyone in this league by a wide gap
remove the top 15 or so
everyone else has almost no real difference between 10 spots ahead and 10 spots behind in the top 50 ish
between 50-90 probably grows to 20 spots
anything above 90 is completely irrelevant its all about development & system at that point..
