OK. But I'd like an answer on this: So if he was never enrolled, why was he having surgery in Toledo? Did UT pay the bill?

RE: Landry
Here's the issue:
Landry was presented as part of the 2015 class at the NLI ceremony. I have gotten numerous texts indicating the excitement of the staff getting Landry on-board and then no mention of him at all. The staff talked about him at length in the spring football prospectus.
He may be gray-shirting since he appears to be on campus, enrolled, and he was part of part of class in 2015. He may have been gray shirted against 2016 class since NLI day due to events invisible to we fans. I will attempt to find out.

RE: Landry
On twitter Landry exhibits a UT insignia, talks about playing pro football in the future, and does not indicate allegiance to any other four year university. He does talk about how great a time he had at Blinn JC.

He also sent a tweet out not too long ago saying he's ready for the next chapter in life.

Well, it is kind of a big thing nowadays. You should take a look at a Michigan-type fanbase or any other major college football program's fanbase. They have sport blogging websites strictly dedicated to everything involved in the recruiting world and they get more traffic than our main sport blogging website.

Those followers - for the most part - are not alumni of UM. They need to get a life, but never will. They argued at length about Harbaugh and what his contract had in it, etc. etc. Then when they were wrong - not a peep. Moved on to the National Championship they will win with the recruiting class and how they will be in the title hunt only because of Harbaugh and all the top notch athletes he brought in. They are delusional. You don't want to be like that Eli Manning....

Outside of the blurb in a post on here, I don't have a clue about the surgery.

And I don't get the obsession and dedication to it. It's a media creation and there is little to no objectivity to the rankings. How many times since the end of the Amstutz Era has Toledo had better recruiting scores than its peer schools? And how often during that time have the Rockets even won its division in one of the weakest FBS conferences?
Recruits are obviously needed for the continual building of programs, but the output on the field is much more important. That has always been my point with the recruiting obsession. Fans of programs that don't win on the field have to find victories elsewhere, so they gobble it up when ESPNU televises a high school kid picking from a row of hats and when Scout, Rivals, 247, etc. put out rankings strategically made to attract the masses.
How the recruits are developed and coached is much more meaningful than how many stars they get from some dope who has never seen them play. Coming out of high school, how many stars did Garrett Wolfe have? Or Chandler Harnish and Jordan Lynch? What about Eric Fisher, Khalil Mack, and Jimmie Ward?

RE: Landry
It's more about talent evaluation and development than star ratings. Staffs that don't do a good job at the above will flutter in mediocrity. Staffs that excel will be big winners. case in point Hoke at Michigan and Dantonio at MSU. The recruit rankings are for the fans and the Kids themselves. Getting kids on campus for live evaluation, or in UT's instance, be at other Universities to evaluate (OSU, UM, MSU camps) is huge. UT offered several recruits at OSU camps this year after being able to evaluate them live.

We were so great at recruiting by the rankings but couldnt win the big game. Now that we have some players that we want, that maybe arent high star guys...we will take over the conference.

All 1st round NFL draft picks. Two were top 5 overall picks. All three of them were rated 2-stars coming out of high school...mind blown.
