1986 Jim Harbaugh story set in Kalamazoo
Quote:Harbaugh, wearing shorts and a t-shirt with white socks and tennis shoes, is seated on the bumper of his faded red 1970 Volkswagen Beetle. He's holding a football in his left hand, and the fingers and thumb of his right hand are held next to his right ear.

"It looks like I've got a cell phone," Harbaugh said with a chuckle. "And there's the old VW. Driving this car was like Fred Flintstone. You could put your feet on the ground. The whole floor board was rusted out and about to go in. In the winter, it got so cold because it had no heater that worked. The frost, I had to scrape from the inside.

"The car got condemned. I paid $400 for the car at a used car lot on Stadium (Boulevard), the muffler fell off. And I did a really funny thing with it. The shifter knob broke, and I drilled a hole through a baseball and put the baseball over the top of it so I could shift it. And the brakes were really bad."

Coach Bo Schembechler told me at the time: "The car Harbaugh has should not be allowed on the streets."

Harbaugh recalled a problem encountered in driving it to his parents' home in Kalamazoo, where his father, Jack, was the head coach at Western Michigan.

"The car was stuck in third gear," said Harbaugh. "So, I just had to keep going 55 (mph). I could brake, but it would go right back up to 55. I drove it that way from Jackson to Kalamazoo and right into the driveway without coming to a stop."

I've listened to the Colin Cowherd and the Huge interviews with Hatbaugh and I'm convinced he has mental issues. It's more than just social awkwardness. It's more like early stages of dementia.

There's a reason the 49'ers weren't going to bring him back.

It's the Harbaugh tribe persona-they promote hatred with their big mouths.

He's not going to wear well at the Big House, trust me. No amount of winning will make up for his controversies-and they will come.

Seriously, I feel bad for him. I don't think UM vetted him at all, they were so excuted he was excited he didn't dis them that they just did the hire. There's something off kilter with him. A former 9'er player called him clinically insane and paraphrased it by saying he wasn't speaking figuratively

Wow, you guys are really going for it here.

Is this stuff just comedy or is it demonstrably verifiable?

The early stages of dementia? Signs of clinical insanity? Well of course those of us who hang out here routinely are quite well acquainted with that sort of thing, we encounter it pretty much daily.

Or are you just trying to suck up to the MSU fans lurking here lately?

Why don't you ask Jim McMahon, on one of his more lucid days? Too man hits. Might be the same for Jimmy boy.

In McMahon's case, the too many "hits" didn't all happen on the field.

A lot of his cognitive problems were self-induced from self-medication.

Also, his habit of head-butting teammates before games and after big plays didn't help him, either.
