I don't know what to think of our coach.
He took over for an idiot that ran a loose ship.
I like that he is a disciplinarian and tough on the team.
Players transferred leading to the APR problems hurting depth.
I'm fine with that do it right or don't do it forget the short term effects. All that is fine and needed in this case.
What is puzzling is some of his decisions .
He starts whoever practices best fine in theory.
We had a running back have a big game and sat the next week.
My thinking is maybe he was sore and it resulted in bad practices. He also goes for it on fourth down a lot more than normal. I think he has possibly cost us some wins vs a conservative coach. What I hope is his competition practice hard approach pays off. A conservative coach would have worked better last year with a freshman QB and young defense.
He reminds me of Rich Rod a little its his way or nothing.
Rich Rod ran the spread year one with the slowest QB in the Big Ten.
I'M not sure about our coach he is either really smart or an idiot who thinks he is.
Feel free to express your thoughts on our coach or yours

You're not going to win too many games in this conference if you're not putting the ball in the endzone. In order to do that, you may have to take a chance or 3 on 4th down. The riverboat gambler philosophy is at home here...

Don't know a whole lot about Idaho and haven't heard much leading up to this season.
But I was impressed with Linehan last year as a freshman. If nothing else, you guys have a good QB to build around.

RE: Petrino
He who practices best is not always who should play.
From multiple sources Jake Delhomne was an OK practice player, but he always worked hard in practice, never dogged it. When the game lights went on, when the juices of competition started flowing he produced. Sometimes good practice players do not perform when the lights go on. A smart coach does not have a static plan, but adapts.

At Sun Belt media day, he mentioned in his opening remarks that Eliijah Penny played better after he lost a few pounds and recovered from an injury, so perhaps he was sitting (if it is Penny you are referring to), due to a minor injury they didn't want to disclose during the season ?
Now, from what I saw when Idaho traveled to Paulson Stadium, was a solid back with a young QB, playing behind an average to above average offensive line, perhaps lacking some depth. Seems like offensively the Vandals are on the right track.
I'll make this suggestion though, you better shore your run defense up before Wofford comes to town.

Let me give you the other side of "best practice plays".
When Joe Hollis (you guys probably liked him he was 1-3 vs the Vandals) was at AState the quality after the first 22 dropped dramatically in many positions and the guys in those positions knew it and mailed it in during practice. So they couldn't execute plays as effectively because they had loafed, back-ups had a terrible attitude as well because they knew no matter how hard they worked the guy goofing off was getting the start and the playing time.

I forgot Wofford was playing Idaho... the week before we play them too. They should be well versed in defending the option by the end of those two weeks.

As long as he's not having players fake heart attacks when the ball is snapped, or faking punts out of your own end zone, I think you'll be alright.

We do. Sorry, bad use of pronouns. I meant Idaho plays Wofford and GS on back to back weeks.

It was Olugbode he had 89 yds on 11 carries something like that and was hardly used afterwards. It seemed odd break out game and then nothing didn't play the next week.
I think the offense could be really good our best player from two years ago is back Epps. The defense should be improved with a big upgrade at D coordinator.
Switching to a three four should help against the run. The linebackers should be better. The best in the spring was a freshman and a safety switching to linebacker.
Rich Rod really was horrible at Michigan he didn't even have a kicker his last year.
He is a system coach and can be great if he has players that fit his system.
Compare that to a Spurrier who can win either way fun n gun or run first play tough defense.
If Petrino is like RR that is fine I just hope he has enough of his type players this coming season.
