Great point. Let's not disparage these kids for looking to take their skills to the top venues-we may be looking to bring them back aboard as transfers down the road. Let them see we're an elite fanbase that understands.
I wouldn't disparage the young men for taking the Minnesota opportunity.
Nor would I. Most of us aspire to perform at the highest level. If the opportunity is there, take it. Maybe some regrets later, if PT isn't what you'd hoped for, but you took your shot.

I do the coach for offering him though. That is a conscious choice to use relationships built on the universities dime to his advantage. Yes, recruiting is a slimy world, but I'm surprised how many WMU fans seem to take this lightly. Offering these kids is a slap in the face to us, WMU, and the community. WMU built PJ Fleck as much as he built our football program. It seems it took him minutes to spit on that.
And contrary to what everyone thinks. Not everybody raids their old recruiting cupboard when they leave for a big job, in fact, some coaches have the integrity to refuse to do so. And even if they do, it's certainly not to this extent.

PJ's loyalty switched from WMU to Minnesota the second he accepted their offer. That's real world, like it or not. If you or I switch companies our loyalty would shift over immediately as well, I've seen that plenty over the decades I've worked in the auto industry. Anything else isn't reality.
PJ gave 100% for WMU while he worked for us, he's now doing that for Minnesota. Really, did anyone expect anything less?????
Really, the only thing that surprises me is that PJ feels so many of the athletes he recruited at WMU are good enough to bring aboard at Minnesota. I would have thought he'd be foccussing on 4-5 star recruits now, but I'm no expert at it.

He's getting paid handsomely to do the best he can to make Minny a winner. It would be nice of him to leave our commits alone (although some would probably leave anyway) but this is basically what I figured would happen.

He's not focusing on those because it's too late in the game for that.
Sad thing is, these kids are loyal to PJ, but he won't be loyal to them once he starts recruiting the 4 stars.

PJ Fleck and his coaches have an eye for talent and they grabbed some diamonds in the rough that other programs missed. Corey Davis was not highly recruited-need I say more?
Maybe he sees the same thing in 3-4 of the 3 stars he recruited, that they have great upside? At the end of the day he produced as a recruiter at WMU.

It sounds like you might want to root for Minnesota. I am sticking with WMU, so **** PJ.

Nice is not in the vocabulary of a driven achievement oriented individual

Forget about me I love you...then, as one of the biggest excuses on why he took the job is "I had to follow MY dreams and my dream was to coach in the Big 10"
For the past 4 years his recruiting shtick has been not to pay attention to the name on the jersey...blah blah blah blah blah.
Whatever, Im over it, we all know what it is. He fits the mold of Urban Meyer, Brian Kelley and other coaches that will do and say whatever they have to.

Apart from the ethical thing, keep in mind that PJ and staff were on the WMU payroll while recruiting these players. There is a big financial investment there in plane fares and visits per diem and salaries.
Most any professional position in sales and marketing you have a non-compete clause where you don't work your former clients for one year after leaving for a new position.
I think other schools making contact with verbals is OK following a coaching change, but a coach horning in on the school you left a couple days after signing a new contract is really like pissing on their doorstep on the way out.
Now I almost feel ashamed we were ever associated with the man. Seriously.

This is the biggest reason it's not OK to do what he did.
It's basically stealing from the folks that gave you the means.

We need a Recruiting Coordinator ASAP.
Yeah, someone from WMU needs to be calling these recruits. Three weeks until signing day, not a whole lot of options out there, but we have plenty of spots open...

Same guy who rescinded all prospects' offers when he initially took the job at WMU, right? So, like, are you really surprised he's being shady about flipping recruits to Minnesota?

I don't get where this comes from. He did not rescind all the offers for the commits that were there when he got here. It was one or two guys. It's just one kid from Indiana that made a big stink of it.
A lot of those guys were Cubit guys that he took that first year.
I'm not fond of his character at this point and how he has handled things, but this narrative isn't completely true. He's turned down more Minnesota kids at this point already than he did WMU ones when he came.
