Question for the Troy fans. Whats your thought on the new coach? What type of offensive and defensive schemes will you guys be running?

I liked the hire because of his familiarity with the program. Nice moves with the assistants and a general acceptance for his attitude. Sofar as the offense goes, not much will change. Increased tempo will be the most apparent aspect. On defense, we have a familiar face with Vic Koenning. The philosophy will be different within the 4-2-5 scheme. Going more multiple fronts and less base 4 man fronts.

As NB has said, it's no secret what they're going to do on offense. Personally, I'm glad that this exciting brand of offense has found it's way back to this program. Pinball-like scoreboards have been absent in recent years.

We lead the league in scoring by a decent margin as recent as 2013 with 36 points per game. That's very recent actually. Louisiana was second highest with 31 points per game versus conference teams. There aren't many years in the last 9 where the Troy offense didn't lead the conference or place second in scoring. The spread at Troy is well established.

We have a ton of offensive players from that '13 squad, as well as our offensive coordinator from that squad (Neal Brown will call plays, however). We already run the spread (a variant of his, no less) so the transition won't take as long as one coming from a run based attack.

I don't think last year's team had the "want to" that this years team has. That happens when you have a Bowden type situation, and a retirement announced midseason. We have talent on the roster, it just needs to be utilized.

Troy's defense is what separated them when they won those titles, for the most part they have always been able to score.

RE: Troy Football
Agree and disagree. There was a fundamental shift in philosophies from defensive to offensive around the '06 season. More schollies were dedicated to Spread personnel and more defenders were gotten from jucos. Less time for development, but it would help the offense excel. Therefore, there was more of a dependence on winning the day with the offense and gambling with low depth chart numbers on defense. With NB being able to find the happy medium, the team should be able to begin putting up big offensive numbers as well as developing a better unit to increase defensive production.

Considering NB has had programs with the fastest offense in the country before. We will dang sure try.

He stated our goal is to be the fastest offense in the country this year.

RE: Troy Football
With most of the Sun Belt moving to a run first style of play, Neal Brown should be extremely successful. It's tough to prepare for an offense you don't see often (exp: Georgia Southern).

My concerns are our ability to stop run based offenses that will become hard to emulate in practice, and our ability to recruit quality defensive tackles and quality defensive depth overall that will be needed when our offense runs up tempo. These are all legitimate concerns. We did hit a home run with the hire of our defensive coordinator Vic Koenning, but he can only do so much if all the pieces aren't in place for him to be successful. This is not going to be an overnight success.

Not if your defense can't get your offense the ball, 2013 you led the league in offense and went 4-3. Your problem lately has been defense, not offense.

Neal has brought discipline to the entire program. That includes coaches, players, and support staff. There is some talent on this team, but not to the level of the teams during the five year run. Many times during that run we just beat people in conference because me had more talent and more depth. The conference was much better when Troy won five than when North Texas had their run. The Sun Belt now is much improved since our run making the climb back to the top that much more difficult. Neal and his staff will get it done, but it won't be overnight. Year three we just might see something special. Six regular season wins this year would be a successful campaign. Anything over that would be over achieving.

I'm not a Troy fan because of wins and losses.

Had a Troy football player call me personally and thank me for being a season ticket holder.

They called all season ticket holders to thank them. And went to residents homes who are supporters to show their thanks and give them a yard sign.

This year i can clearly see a attidude change within the program.
