RE: App inks Seven year deal w Nike
App is getting $100,000 a year from Nike with a 5k increase each year til 2022. Old deal was just $20,000 in apparel. Also, this will outfit all 20 programs. Baseball was still Russell.

Fun Fact. App State went from Russell to Nike in 2007 and the first game after that was Michigan. Nike really liked their logo being on the cover of SI.

Sounds similar to the deal we got with adidas, minus the increasing part. Good job by you guys.

Nike didn't want to give us anything other than the standard deal so we took other offers. adidas has been good to us so far but I'd love to go back to Nike. Never know what will happen when the contract comes up though.

Just throwing this out there, but it sounds like Nike thinks App has a better national brand than GS.

This brings up a good question, which apparel company would you prefer your team use, assuming they all paid the same?

Addidas. Nike is a shady organization in my opinion. Addidas may be too, I just feel more strongly about it towards Nike.

Sigh. Can always count on you and T-Dog (and Gonzo when he manages to show up) to stir things around. That national brand also let you get yourselves talked into a game that should have never happened last year.

We also redid our deal before the 2013 season. Lots of things have changed since then. I'm looking forward to the leverage we'll have when it's time for a new contract.

And I just prefer Nike stuff, always have. In reality, when it comes to the equipment they provide to the teams, I don't think there's any remarkable difference that one has over the other. On the fan side, I think Nike has better selection and options.

My biggest irritation with all of them is "fitted" hats that don't fit well over my big head. These folks should take a lesson from Duluth who has a 2XL stretch fit hat size. Most comfortable hat I've ever worn outside of my Tilley hats.

I guess this is just to 05-stirthepot , but I think you might be the chief of a one man tribe...not that it matters all that much either way. Any difference one way or the other is negligible.

I've never said I believe App has a better "national" brand, only pointing out Nike's take on the two schools.

Sounds like a solid deal for App, but when paired with the news of Michigan's deal, it really puts into perspective the gap between the haves and have nots.

This is a stupid deal. Nike doesn't even field an FBS team! Why would you sign a 7 year deal with them, regardless of the number of home games????

I assume the odd number game will be at a neutral site like BOA Stadium in Charlotte.

What is Nike's take on it good for?

I don't think whipping out comparisons over deals signed two years apart means anything in this day and age of CFB. The money funneling in makes the numbers silly, so if anything a deal signed two years later after a season in FBS pretty comparable to ours signed two years ago as a member of the SoCon... Take it for what that's worth.

I think this was pure :05-stirthepot ...

The opener can't get here fast enough.

I think most Americans would join me in preferring Nike over Adidas.

This isn't a Pepsi/Coke kind of dynamic. It's Pepsi/RC Cola. If there's any second place sports apparel company, and a distant second still, it's Under Armor.

I prefer Adidas. I just like their clothes better. IMO Nike makes better shoes but Adidas makes better sports apparel in general.
