Their methodology page doesn't give a date range; I wouldn't be surprised if the data goes back to 2013 or prior. Ray Watts has done enormous damage to UAB unrelated to athletics, and our good faculty are streaming out the door.

It's very difficult to compare international universities on undergraduate education, so these rankings are pretty much all about research. In that sense W&M and Lehigh aren't so hot.

This is very true. We have a miniscule research footprint, because of a 40-year desegregation lawsuit that directed all research funds to either TSU (where it's mismanaged) or UT.

Obvioulsy, being the land grant UT has a huge research budget but TSU has a research budget that's four times more in dollar value than ours, which is rediculous.

Any ranking system will have its flaws, as mentioned. All that really matters is the value of an individual's education, which can be very different from student to student in the same school. One flaw this ranking has to me is that a lot of it is affected by the size of the school/faculty. While the alumni measurement is adjusted relative to the size of the school, that doesn't really serve as an effective adjustment for things as rare as CEO positions at top companies (which doesn't strike me as a particularly good measure) and major international awards. 25% of the ranking seems to be based on pure numbers of faculty who have received awards and such. A small school like Rice is punished for its size in this kind of ranking through most of the measures. Also, the fact that we don't have a medical school doesn't help.

Agreed. It should really come down to how well a school enlightens and prepares its graduates to be successful in their given disciplines and career paths. You may have a school with a faculty that all have doctoral degrees in Macramé from BillyBob University, but how well does that translate into prepping little Junior for a career in accounting?
