Heck, last year practically every win was an upset!
It would not surprise me to see Rice finish the year with an RPI in the Top 150 this season. They improved as the season went along last year and I expect their starting point to be further along this season than it was last season. I know that Rice has been recruiting much better since the new coach arrived than they had in the past few years. Wouldn't surprise me to see you guys in the Top 4 of the conference standings in another year or two. Good luck.
I'll go a step further and say that I think Rice will get at least 4 wins vs those preseason top 5 teams (ODU/UAB/Tech/MTSU/UTEP) this year including the conf tourney games.
Sure, probably not a top tier regular season contender. But watch out for a CUSA tourney run. See you in the title game for our closest brush with the dance since 1970, if we're not on the UAB side of the draw.
Rice bball is definitely headed in the right direction. I think you may be a year ahead on your prognostication. Do you think they will draw more than 2,000 per game this year?
Based on season ticket sales so far this year, possibly.

It can take several years of steady winning to gain traction. Good luck.
