BXII's Official Expansion Committee
http://www.wvgazettemail.com/article/201.../150729694

West Virginia University President Gordon Gee is a member of the three-member Big 12 expansion committee...

...the “Composition Committee” are Gee, Boren and Baylor University President Ken Starr. That’s it.

“I’m on the committee and I think we need to explore it,” Gee said this week. “I always laughed about the Big Ten because we had 12 teams and I always laugh about the Big 12 because we have 10 teams. For some reason, our arithmetic is not right.

“That said, though, we in the Big 12, in terms of football and basketball, are competitive from top to bottom... There aren’t weaknesses. So if we were to add someone, the school would have to add to our value, add to our culture and be competitive in this very competitive environment.”...

...Possible candidates for expansion include BYU, Boise State, Central Florida, Cincinnati, Colorado State, Houston and Memphis. I asked Gee, though, if there are any serious contenders currently before the committee.

“If there were,” he replied, “I wouldn’t tell you.”...

...Gee is not in favor of a Big 12 title game as the league stands.

“With 10 teams, it would be unwieldy,” he said. “I don’t think we could. Well, we could, but I don’t think it’s wise. It would be kind of a shotgun marriage.”...

From today's interview.

John Martin ‏@JohnMartin929 ESPN’s Brett McMurphy: “The good news for Memphis is … the Big 12 is gonna have to look to the American Athletic Conference for two teams.”

John Martin ‏@JohnMartin929 McMurphy: “The Big 12 is not expanding west.”

McMurphy turd boy later clarified that there would be no expansion for 5-10 years. Nothing to see here as usual. I agree with Pony, all of these separate threads for the same thing are annoying.

If 5 - 10 years I wonder how he's so certain BYU, Colorado State, Boise are out --- *if* this happens?

Brett McMurphyVerified account‏@McMurphyESPN @flugempire they are not expanding. If they do 5-10 years from now it will not be to the west

Like the basketball mention. Sounds as if it might actually play some part in the decision process --- if this ever happens.

They want eastern exposure in the more populated regions. Plus get in areas with more bowl games which is eastern.

Well if it's eyeballs BYU has a national following. I can't see that as the whole reason assuming McMurphy's 'sources' have this right.

Everyone wants to think they are in charge but ESPN and Fox will tell them who to pick.

I have heard it is Memphis and Cincy for just 2 adds. I can see UCF AND USF being added later.

FYI - McMurphy quote >>>

“The best bet for Memphis is to hope that the Big 10 goes to 16 teams by trying to pluck somebody from the ACC somewhere down the road. Once that happens, I think you’ll see four 16-team divisions and then teams like Memphis, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF – they get pulled up to fill out those other spots in the other power conferences.”

I agree. Memphis would serve as the connecting bridge to West Virginia, Cincy, UCF, and USF as well as the rest of the Big 12.

he's so "certain" because he doesn't want western schools. Obviously, west Virginia wants eastern expansion badly. He wants a travel partner and we all hold on to the hope its our school and he (Gee) gives us all hope because he mentions our schools by name. Yes, he publicly mentioned ECU before...now, I don't know what the other big 12 schools are thinking, but its extremely obvious what WV wants: the big 12 to expand, and to do with schools close to them. Cheers!

Probably couldn't hurt that Baylor's president is on the committee as he should be pretty familiar with UCF.

RE: BXII's Official Expansion Committee
The writers are writing this is the dead period they need something to talk about. if after next year of the four team playoff is not fair which I know will happen. You will see talk about expanding the playoff why would the big 12 waist 40 million dollars on adding two schools it just doesn't make sense
