How every college fb team has stacked up since current recruits started watching

How a person views a sport tends to be a function of his or her age. People who have been watching the game for decades tend to find more currency in tradition and performance in years long since passed, while kids might only know the sport based on what they've seen.

The upcoming 2016 recruiting class was born in the late 1990s, and for the most part, they probably only really know what's happened in the past 10 years or so. The program prestige they know is based on recent history.

F/+ is the ranking system used by Football Outsiders, a combination of the S&P+ metric by our own Bill Connelly and Brian Fremeau's Efficiency Index.

These are the 10-year F/+ averages for every FBS team, or approximately the time period in which today's recruits have been paying attention. For teams that have been competing at the FBS level for fewer than 10 years, their average simply includes all the years they've spent as an FBS program. Basically, a rating of 0.0 would mean a perfectly average team.

I'd imagine that a whole lot of recruits didn't "grow up watching" teams in this conference unless they were local --- so I really doubt it matters much. Probably matters more for some of the top P5s.

The list covers schools for the entire life of current recruits. So it doesn't matter what conference you were or are in now. It is whether or not they know you at all and how you stack up with them. That's my take on it. I didn't write the piece.

They benefit from their W-L records. It helps to play in a lesser conference. Take it worth a grain of sand. It's just SBNation stuff. I posted it for fun. 04-cheers

To be accurate it should be a weighted average with the most recent years carrying a higher value. This years recruit is going to view a school who had 7 good years with the last 3 poor differently than a school that had 7 poor years with the last 3 good for example.

Fine --- conference affiliation isn't a factor in viewership. Let those that believe that -- believe that.

Great idea. Seriously flawed methodology. So bad I'm not gonna waste time going into why. Great idea though

Maybe somebody smart could use the premise

I think Temple and Memphis will be two of the biggest risers in the next 10 years.

Interesting stuff. I hope for our sake some kids pay even closer attention in their high school years. We've had a pretty decent 5 or so year run.

Pitt at #32 and UC at #41 is shocking to me...

UC did a ton more than Pitt in this time frame and also owned the series, beating Pitt in some HUGE games on national TV during this span.

What am I not getting?

Cincinnati football last 10 years:

2 BCS bowl appearances
8 bowl games with a 4-4 record
1 12-win season, 1 11-win season, 3 10-win seasons, 2 9-win seasons
2 outright Big East championships, share of 2 other Big East championships and an AAC championship
Finished 4 seasons ranked

Pitt football last 10 years:

No BCS bowl appearances
7 bowl games with a 3-4 record
1 10-win season, 1 9-win season
1 share of a Big East championship
Finished 1 season ranked

And in the past 10 seasons, the schools are tied at 4-4 in head-to-head meetings.

These rankings are 100% absolute garbage.
