Won't happen...we're not like-minded institutions. We care about football and nothing else. Am I missing anything?

Once the TV bubble completely bursts - and pay-for-play really kicks in - it'd make sense for the leagues to realign more geographically. Who knows if it could actually ever happen.

Common sense went out the window of this venue a long time ago.

It's drivel.
Yep, it's obvious it comes from an AAC fan who is scared that CUSA has overtaken the AAC. The AAC is going downhill. The only thing they have is the past and some good bowl affiliations.
I laugh when I read something like this. Denial can be so powerful. C-USA has gone from a top level conference a hair below BCS auto-bid to on-par with every other G5 conference in football, a top level, multi-bid conference in basketball to one-bid and Rice and everyone else in baseball.
Sun Belt has gone from a 5-7 team as the only team in a bowl, to averaging 5-6 bowl eligibles a year, slid some in basketball, and should stay near the same in baseball.

My favorite comment from the first page:
"It would be better for CUSA to merge with the AAC than the Sun Belt."
Yeah. I'd like the Belt to merge with the NFC South too.
Those people are absolutely delusional.

I'd settle for the SEC.

I think this is much more likely to happen than most realize. Regional rivalries and butts-in-the-seats may trump TV markets sooner rather than later.

It is delusional for the same reason that a CUSA member would say it is delusional for an SBC fan to say that the SBC should merge with CUSA; the AAC is now made up mostly of teams who were desperate to get away from the teams now in CUSA.

This is what stAte is gambling on, and to some degree UL, GaSo and App.

Not really though. They thought they were leaving a G5 league for a P5 league (Big East) and once they got there, they had that taken away from them (re-branded as AAC). It was supposed to be a promotion but it turned out the be a lateral move.

I don't know if we're really gambling on anything because we have no real control over whether that happens.

Yes, but they also did it to get away from the rest of the teams in the league. Sort of like the Big East basketball split to get away from them. Everyone is trying to align themselves with like minded schools right now. I doubt the AAC sees CUSA as like minded.
I think there is some gap between CUSA and the SBC in that way, but I don't think it's as far off because CUSA seems very content continuing to add other SBC programs.

I think Rice, Marshall, USM, UTEP, and UAB used to be in the same conference with those schools. Tech was with Tulsa, Tulane, ECU, and SMU. WKU and MT could hang. ODU and UTSA have potential. I don't know that the rest could hang right now.

No objective sports fan who knows what they're talking about would opine that CUSA is close to the strength of AAC.
I'm a homer sometimes too, but that position is patently absurd.
