RE: Breaking News: Banowsky Gone
Interesting view of our tv negotiations from Matt Sarzyniak on his blog. Here is a part of that:

"In some ways, with the sports rights market being relatively stable for the next few years, this is a place where ESPN and FOX, who also made some cuts with respect to their news coverage both in the field and in the studio, can reassess priorities and ways to make money. These aren't charities. And its also a place where NBC, CBS and others could be more active if the price is right.

* One rights agreement that could be decided soon is Conference USA's. C-USA's commissioner, Britton Banowsky, has announced he is stepping down to take a role with the College Football Playoff Foundation and I would assume that he has announced this with negotiations for future rights finished, or at least in the hands of lawyers who are finalizing the language.

The best parallel that I can recall for something like this is when the MAC and ESPN finalized a new agreement and announced it on January 28, 2009. A day later, MAC commissioner Rick Chryst announced that he would resign from the conference at the end of the 2008-09 athletic year.

Conference USA's media days are Tuesday, July 21 & Wednesday, July 22."

Yeah, I would be shocked if the new contract has not already been finalized, or at least a handshake agreement.

That was sort of the last thing to tie up for Banowsky to make the transition easy for someone else.

A poster on our board recently said that we can expect big news soon. We thought it was scheduling related, but this morning he said it wasn't necessarily about a "big game" just a big announcement, so maybe it is related to TV rights.

RE: Breaking News: Banowsky Gone
FIU has just signed a Multi-Media Rights agreement with Van Wagner Sports and Entertainment Marketing to pay the school $600k/year for 7 years.

"Van Wagner’s new collegiate multimedia rights business is on the board with its first deal. The agency has signed Florida International University, a Conference USA school, to a seven-year agreement that will pay the school an average of $600,000 annually"

Their outdoor signs business was recently sold to CBS Outdoors, so not sure if there is a connection here.

Anyways seems interesting, esp. around what is going on with C-USA media rights talk.

"Conference USA's media days are Tuesday, July 21 & Wednesday, July 22."

What are the chances that the new TV deal is announced this week?

I know nothing, but I expect to hear something in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully this week.

I hope Banowsky goes out with a bang and delivers a great TV deal. It wouldn't surprise me.

Yes, he has failed miserably.......the AAC has the best TV deal of the so called G5 conferences. All football and basketball Conference games carried by ESPN or CBS family of networks. With the highest payout per school and in total.

He is constantly fighting to best position the AAC with the so called "P5" conferences.

Good old BB tucked tail and ran when the so called "P5" conferences starting ripping apart C-USA back in 2003. Rather than fighting to keep members, he opened the door and wished them well. What a great Commissioner. You C-USA folks should be rejoicing the fact he is no longer the "Farm Director of the P5 & AAC ".

RE: Breaking News: Banowsky Gone
Just for fun, I did a little look at a few folks in other conference offices that I thought might become candidates for the job and came up with this list.

Michael Strickland – ACC
Brad Traviolia – Big Ten
Jamie Zaninovich – PAC 12
Tim Weiser – Big 12

Let me point out that I know very little about these guys, and don't know if they have any interest in the job. I just looked for guys that I thought had the credentials if they were interested. My point in posting -- does anyone know about any of these four and if they might have an interest?

If she's got what it takes to lead the steer the conference toward bigger and better things, then I'm all for MacLeod. I'm all for anyone who can do that, really.

You can only do so much to polish a turd.

She's actually not allowed in the room when they discuss C-USA teams.

Exact same rules apply to everyone on that committee, but who else has the problems we do? In a u help me i help you situation like that committee, she has failed. Many of the head coaches in this league begging that she not get this job.

Really? Is that a quote from todays issue of "The Gold Standard," or is it speculation?

I think CUSA not getting at large bids recently is more of an us (CUSA mbb) problem than a MacLeod problem. ODU could have gotten an at large last season after going 11-1 ooc and 6-1 against top 100 teams, but we crapped the bed against some lower rpi teams on the road in conference. IMO, that is what cost us an at large, not MacLeod.

Besides, we all know that basketball does not drive the CUSA bus; it sits quietly in the back.

Maybe we'll send somebody else to the tournament pow-wow if she takes over as commissioner.

No it came from a one on one conversation with one of the head coaches at Southern miss. who by the way has discussed this situation with several cusa coaches on the summer recruiting trail. Including yours.
