RE: Top local eats for visiting fans.
Speaking of Statesboro, is there a bar or restaurant to have a few drinks and watch a baseball game that has an older crowd? I'll be in Statesboro often for business and I'd like to find a nice place to drink a craft beer or have a glass of wine after work.

Thanks

RE: Top local eats for visiting fans.
Gonzo's recommendations. I know good food. These are guaranteed.

Portofino (get the spiced sirloin or the fried green tomorato BLT), Local, Black Cat(chicken enchiladas or the Don't be a Jerk Burrito), Coyote Kitchen (Get the Toas Boat, featured in Our State Magazine this year), Boone Bagelry, Comeback Shack (Fried Green Tomato Burger (seasonal), Comeback style Burger, chicken strips), Mellow Mushroom (Red potato pie or Cosmic Karma). Woodlands in Blowing Rock (chopped pork BBQ, NC style like God intended), Joe's, Maccadoes.

Boone is a mecca of good restaurants. Even if you stray from my list of personal favorites, you're bound to find something you like. (no particular order)

Unfortunately, you have to take one of two options.

40 East Grill and Chops (closed for the moment, but I hear it's reopening) are great choices for a quieter bar with better drink selection. However, neither has a national selection for sports.

If you're a fan of anyone other than the Braves, the Buffalo Wild Wings is the only place in town I know of that has the extra innings package.

After going to the Local (for food) for the first time tonight, I'd have to definitely recommended it. I had the best Bahn Mi I've ever had. Great beer selection and a great bar scene after hours.

Food threads could almost be considered porn for those in Lafayette. If I can dig up a list I did last year for softball regional fans traveling to the area I'll post is a little later.

I still recommend Gnats for this one. There's always a good mix of college and older there and it's a great place to watch a game. If craft beer is your thing check out Southern Growlers and Eagle Creek Brewing Company. Eagle creek was just voted best beer in the state of Georgia.

I'll second Drew. I'm 35 and this is where I ate my last time in the boro and there was a nice mix of locals and students. Food was good and there are plenty of tvs.

I ate a 40 East a few months ago and it was really good. Definitely for the older crowd

I'm going back for business and was set on Mellow Mushroom but will try Gnat's Landing. I saw the place when I was driving through campus (very nice) and it looked fun.

There was a BBQ place on the left side of the highway as you come into Statesboro from the Savannah airport that looked good. Can't remember the name. Is it good?

There's nothing like the late 1990's - early 2000's Old Shroom in the PLAZA. That place was legendary!!! Just a different chill bar full of WSP hippies, crazy sh** on the wall and bands.

They served $.50 well drinks and had free pool during the summer. That's where I was almost every night.

Never been to Primo's but if you're willing to pay a pretty penny, Casa Rustica is my personal favorite when it comes to Italian food in Boone.

I would add Julia's for the breakfast.

Sips on the Square may be the best restaurant in town.

I'm not a Troy fan because of wins and losses.

Trojan Zone for wings.

The Brick is pretty good as well.

Does anyone actually go to Atlanta for a football game without a trip to The Varsity?

Lived in GA all my life, been to Atlanta countless times....and I've never been to the Varsity.

It's always seemed more like a place you should go to just to say you've been than to really enjoy the food.

Sounds like my kind of place. Not enough hippies in Statesboro. Gnats was about the coolest place around when I was there. Buffaloes had some decent music every once in a while

It's been almost 10 years since I've been back to the Boro. Some of those spots were there and a good find. I've heard great things about Gnats Landing. Dingus food is a waste, but the atmosphere is good for college students. El Som was legendary as a pre night spot. Food was average, but bartender Antonio ALWAYS hooked us up. Vandy's was always over rated. I've had better Brunswick stew in Savannah. Lee's Restaurant was always a great spot for lunch. Good food at a great price!

When I make my trip in the fall, I'll be sure to hit Gnat's. I did go on Yelp and see what places had good reviews and El Rinconcito had some nice reviews. Anyone have any insight of this place?

Dingus Magee's has great happy hour deals. Plus I really like their food because it's the only place in the world where you can still get a taste for what Zaxby's used to taste like before it went commercial. Since Dingus is right across from where the original Zaxby's stood, they have a contract with zaxbys where they can use zaxbys sauce recipes and chicken recipes. Everything is homemade so it's really good. I agree that Vandy's Vegetable Soup with meat aka their Brunswick Stew is garbage but they have really good BBQ for the price and their homemade sauce is crazy delicious. El Riconcito is a hole-in-the-wall place behind Wendy's and zaxbys that doubles as a Tienda (Latin American Grocery Store). They have really authentic food that's also nice and cheap so college students love it. Plus all you can eat chips and salsa bar is nice.
