RE: App State AD pushing for game with ECU
I like ECU fans, not sure where the animosity came from here. We are both the only football first schools in the state, have winning traditions and are G5s. No reason we shouldn't play each other and also pull for each other whenever playing the in state P5 schools.

Spending 19 of my 23 years in Greenville has taught me one thing: Pirate fans have a very diluted view of their program and down right delusional. For years they were lobbying ACC/Big East. Finally they get into the Big East which actually turned to AAC aka CUSA 2.0. They see that their renovated stadium holds 50k and believe it gets filled week in and week out but then I'll be sitting with family in Pirate Club and I hear so many complaints about how the stadium isn't even close to capacity. The pirate nation is a very delusional bunch but regardless of if we get a true home and home with them I have no doubts we will take a game if not both. Their crutch is beating UNC and VT and NCSU but they don't look at he fact that each of those programs had historically down years for their programs in those years. Their inferiority complex is somewhat understandable though. The sad part about their angriness is the deed is already done their just finalizing dates at this point

You mean the UNC and Va Tech teams were historically down yet still went to bowl games last year? And that NC State team we beat that had Russell Wilson was historically down?

They were 7-6 and 6-7 champ, so yes I'd say so. State wasn't anything special at that point in time either. Valiant effort though

You said historically bad, so I'd say no. Each has been much worse. And NC State finished 2010 (the season I mentioned) ranked. So, nice try to you champ.

I get it you need to take the wording that literal to try and prove your point but the facts are what they are. Not very impressive wins when you really take a look, on the surface, yes. if you wanna go back 5 years then we might as well go back 8 years when App pulled off a bigger W than ECU has ever gotten close to.

Lol, than ECU has ever pulled off? You really know nothing. And I choose 5 years ago because we've only played NC State twice since 2010 (2010 and 2013) winning both games.

its like ECU teaches a class on it or something...but we all know they don't do too much of teaching of anything on that campus.

You technically can use either in that sentence, however he likely meant what you pointed out.

Were not going to compare ECU and Apps FBS histories because that would be a fool's errand. When App averages 40k a game, I'll be all for a H&H.

There's no animosity there. Like I said, I like ECU a lot. I just don't think they're above the level of giving us a home and home.

So I'm assuming you're not all for your home and home with Marshall?

Hell no. If not for a tragic plane crash, we wouldn't ever speak to them. It's to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the crash.

I will agree that the current Pirate fan does represent the basement of Dowdy Ficken.

That's a dumb stance and excuse not to play a home and home.

More than likely App will never average 40K a game. Regardless of that irrelevant number, ECU will play at KBS my man and it will be a lot sooner than later..you might as well go ahead and get use to the idea of it.

When App. finishes scheduling their non-conference games the next few years you guys can go ahead and schedule us some good games. It seems that no G5 is interested in playing us home/home except for MAC teams or UMass.

Home and home is a no go according to our AD

Link?

We heard that from Marshall fans just a month ago.

Question was posed to our AD at a recent DC Pirate Club event. We aren't Marshall.

No you are not. We do not pretend to be better than we are or snub our noses at other schools for no reason like ECU does.

Other than your average home attendance, ECU has NOTHING on Marshall or majority of the G5 for that matter.

I wouldn't either after the ass beating we put on you guys the last time you came to Huntington.

59-28 with the East Division on the line.....oh, and ECU got a cheap 8 points towards the end of the game. We had our JV in but they were still playing their starters.

ECU fans are the biggest joke in all of G5.

RE: App State AD pushing for game with ECU
Bank of America Stadium "...the only stadium in North and South Carolina with over 30,000 seats not belonging to an ACC or SEC school."

Uh...what? I could excuse this little booboo if we had recently expanded our stadium, but we've been over 30,000 since 1977, and 50,000 since 2010. Someone didn't bother to make a quick google check before writing.

But seriously I could be all over this game for several reasons. For one, I like playing in-state and schools of regional interest. Another is that I'm pretty much done with the so-called P5 and really enjoy watching and playing schools from the other conferences. Another is the purely selfish reason that Charlotte is one helluva lot closer to me than Greenville.

There is no question it would be a well attended game. Appalachian is the 15th highest attended game in ECU's stadium at 49,000+. A lot of that attendance were ASU fans. Unfortunately many of our conference foes don't have the best of attendance, so we try to schedule non-conference games either at home or against foes with good attendance in larger stadiums (SC, WVU, VT, UNC-CH, NCSU, etc. We go to both BYU and Florida this year.) I have no doubt a game in Boone is a guaranteed sellout. The only problem I see is that it would be a sellout of small proportion. It's similar to the NCSU and UNC-CH approach to playing us. They would schedule us (sorta) in Raleigh or Chapel Hill or Charlotte, but they would not play in Greenville until our stadium sat 43,000 with even additional capacity provided by temporary end zone bleachers. Expand Kidd-Brewer to 40K and I think there would be true home and home matchups, and not just with ECU. A lot of good programs would be interested. I know I would be first in line to buy a ticket. (Boone is also a helluva lot closer to me than Greenville.)

RE: App State AD pushing for game with ECU
until we increase our stadium capacity over 30 thousand, I can understand why ECU would be hesitant to come to Boone. Happy that we were able talk both Wake and Marshall to make it up the mountain, but, ECU is in a different league, attendance wise, they average over 44 thousand, both Marshall and Wake less than 35. They also have had more success over the years, always seem to be in the top 30, year in, year out, cant really say that for both Marshall and Wake

Why shou, d we have to average 40k to host the Pirates when your own conference averaged 29k last year. Up until a bad 2013 season we were consistently averaging between 27-29k.

Here is the AAC per team last year.

ECU 44, 786
UCF 37, 812
Memphis 33, 851
Navy 32,502
USF 30, 694
Cincinnati 28, 840
Houston 28, 311
UConn 27, 461
Tulane 25,012
Temple 23, 370
SMU 21, 528
Tulsa 19, 647

Going by your standards it looks like yall shouldn't play any road games in conference either.

Just to be clear, I'm all for expanding KBS to 35, 000 seats which I believe we could mostly fill up every week and sellout for big games. We had nearly 32, 000 for stinking Elon in 2010 which included maybe 1, 000 Elon fans. We're in a Catch 22 at this moment, but we have to expand to get some of the teams we want in Boone.

Jesus tapdancing Christ, it's qualified by the first part of that sentence. One little mistake and you go all "someone didn't bother to google, hur hur hur". It annoys the **** out of me that people will be grammar police yet don't have the balls to write themselves.
