More and more programs succeeding with servicible bigs and great perimeter talent. The game has changed from the old days of just C, PF, SF, SG and PG lineups.

Good point. There is no question things are evolving from that standpoint.

In today's game, you definitely don't need two true bigs in the game. I like the idea of having a 6'10"-ish athletic rim protector surrounded by guards and wings.

In best John Madden voice..."gotta score more points than the other team!"

Final 16/17 Rankings Top 5
1. NC - 84 PPG
2. Gonzaga - 83 PPG
3. Oregon - 79 PPG
4. Kansas - 83 PPG
5. Kentucky - 85 PPG

Last year UC scored 74 PPG (highest in the Cronin era)

Nova scored 78 PPG when they won the Championship the year before.

Washington / Clark scored 24 PPG - anything over 25 PPG next year 04-cheers
Evans / Cumberland scored 22 PPG (Cumberland only played 20 mins game)
Caupain / Johnson scored 19 PPG - can Boone / ??? outscore that number

Scott / Moore / Jenifer / Brooks / Freshman

Cut Nasty, then we don't have to read his posts.
This isn't HS tryouts. Quadri will be a little more productive in 17-18
behind Clark and Washington, a valuable asset.

I hope that for both his and our sakes that Quadri is the 2017-2018 edition of Justin Jackson's senior year campaign. He won't start, but if he can figure out how to be a productive bench player (as he's shown flashes of) he will be remembered much more fondly.

This this and this. Having a good shot blocker completely changes how teams can defend. Guards can afford to be much more aggressive knowing their is a shot blocker behind them. KW is terrible at it and I don't really see Brooks having the athleticism to be a good one either.

Justin Jackson is probably the best shot blocker Mick has had. His block % as a freshman was 4.4. Brooks by comparison was 9.4. Yes, Jackson climbed 12% as a senior which is phenomenal, but I don't know how you could watch Brooks and not project him to be a good rim protector...

No idea how good he'll end up becoming, but when Brooks is on the floor he looks like a grown assed man playing with teenagers. Not just his height. He's built like a video game designer put him together.

I agree. Hoping he keeps developing his offensive game but the guy protects the rim like he takes people coming in his paint area as a personal affront.

And one thing most people miss about Brooks too is that he is rarely the last guy down the floor. He doesn't look fast, but just watch him. The big dude can run.

And next year with Cane Broome, "running" is going to be very much in style. Our bigs are going to be subbing in an out I think. Make sure the trainers have a full set of oxygen masks at the ready.

Or is that wishful thinking?

We need to bring in a seriously talented scoring PF - there is just no way around it. And those guys don't exactly just fall from the sky.

We have some talent at the 4 and 5. But it is going to be VERY hard to replace what Gary and Kyle do as far as nightly scoring.

On the plus side any PF stud can see that he can come in and be the man on a team that has no shortage of guard and wing talent. Just hope that guy commits soon...

Mamoudou Diarra commits to UC:

Since we have no more scholarships, it looks like we won't be getting Bragg...

If Bragg has to sit out until 2018 and Diarra is c/o 2017, is this still the case?

Yes, the only way he can come to UC now is if he either is willing to play without a scholarship for a year (lol) or someone leaves the team. We can only have 13 active scholarships at any 1 time, regardless of if they ever see the court.

Diarra seems like a typical Mick-ball stiff who will help us neat the ECU's of the world. I hope we can make room for Bragg. Surely there's a D2 school Quadri could transfer to for his senior year.

So much negativity about mick and his team. The team and players he recruits continue to get better each year plus they do a good job of representing the school. I would much rather root for players like Troy and Gary than some one and done player. Not every time is built with 5 star players and it doesn't same to be bring UK championships every year GOBEARCATS

Thanks for the clarification. I can't imagine that Mick didn't leave an avenue for Bragg to join the roster and I doubt we accepted Mammadou knowing that we're still in Bragg's final four as reported yesterday.

Yes, but if the bashing of Mick's recruiting style is permissible, this should be as well.

No joy in Storrs:

Cincinnati-Bound Mamoudou Diarra Latest Recruit To Reject UConn

Quote:..."Thank you to all the coaches who [have been] interested in me," Diarra wrote on Instagram. "But I feel Cincinnati is the best spot to showcase my talent and hope to win a national championship."

Diarra, originally from Mali, played at St. Louis Christian and first committed and signed with Washington. After that school fired coach Lorenzo Romar and his staff on March 15, Diarra asked for his release. Raphael Chillious, who had been associate head coach at Washington, was hired by Kevin Ollie, so it was assumed UConn had the inside track.

But after visiting UConn, Diarra moved on to visit Cincinnati and, this week, Missouri...

Well, for a frosh (I guess Diarra is a frosh) I like his videos on youtube.

He already shows a jump hook and a spot up jumper (not just the dunk, although there are a LOT of those highlights, I don't know why the dunk excites people so much). Doesn't look stiff at all, very fluid and moves with a purpose.

I liked Broome's video when he signed (he creates for others and gets his own shot). Diarra needs to add some weight.
