Which C-USA schools have athletes as members of a PROFESSIONAL SPORTS hall of fame?
C-USA has been marketing the conference by using great players from its' member schools' history in its' Who's Next campaign. I love this idea (though I wish that they would push it more), as I believe that it is the best way to sell our programs.

I realize that many of the players used never played a game in C-USA, but a conference is the sum of its' members and their collective histories, so I do not think that this is important. Hell... hardly any of our current members have played many games as part of C-USA. That is why selling our new collective histories is of utmost importance.

Who are your athletes who have made it to the pinnacle of their sport. I am not talking school or state halls of fame, but the big ones: NFL, NBA, MLB etc. Being in the CFL or Arena HOF is a great accomplishment and I would be proud if a Southern Miss standout were in the HOF of anything, but let's stick to the BIG ONES!

Let's also stick with players. A coach moves from place to place and their legacies are rarely attached to only one school.

Also, slam dunk near-future adds, a la Brett Favre and Randy Moss have been added to my list with an (*).

A quick search on my part has revealed the following:

Southern Miss: Ray Guy, Brett Favre*
Marshall: Frank Gatski, Hal Greer, Randy Moss*
Louisiana Tech: Terry Bradshaw, Fred Dean, Willie Roaf, Karl Malone, Pam Kelly, Janice Lawrence, Teresa Weatherspoon
UTEP: Nate Archibald, Don Maynard#
Old Dominion: Anne Donovan, Nancy Lieberman, Inge Nissen
WKU: Edgar Allen Diddle
UNT: Mean Joe Green, Brian Waters*
Rice: Don Maynard#

*- Presumed first ballot inductee upon eligibility
#-Don Maynard played at BOTH Rice (1 yr.) and UTEP... Interesting trivia...

***I am editing the list as you guys provide names.

I'm not sure about Nolan Richardson. He played at Texas Western (UTEP) but I believe he was inducted as a coach but didn't coach at UTEP.

I guess technically not a professional hall of fame, but Bob Beamon is a member of the US and International Track Halls of Fame.

You can add Hal Greer from Marshall...

and I thought Cam Henderson was in the HOF... but I might be mistaken.

I did see this. Is the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame the pinnacle HOF for women's basketball? Please excuse my ignorance.

I also noticed that Louisiana Tech has former players in this HOF.

I originally had Hal Greer on my list. He is in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. I am ignorant in basketball. Are the Naismith and NBA HOF both considered the pinnacle of basketball. I am assuming that NBA includes only former NBA players and Naismith overall. Does one hold more prestige than the other? Excuse my ignorance.

Nice try...04-bs

CFL is not the pinnacle... nor is the Arena Football League. These are fantastic accomplishments and I would be proud for a Southern Miss standout to be in either one, but we are looking for those recognized at the pinnacle of their sport.

These Tech players/coaches are in the Women's Basketball HOF:

- Leon Barmore
- Gary Blair (assistant under Barmore; made his name at other schools)
- Kurt Budke
- Pam Kelly
- Sonja Hogg
- Janice Lawrence
- Kim Mulkey
- Teresa Weatherspoon

There is no separate NBA HOF. The Naismith covers it all: college, NBA, international, and women.

Which of these are coaches? I would rather stick to players, as coaches come and go and their legacies are not usually attached to one school.

Thank you! Ignorance zapped (if only in that regard).

I wasn't citing them being in Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, though they are. They are both in the Naismith Hall of Fame, the pinnacle for hoopsters, male and female.

If I was using the women's hall of fame, there would be more Lady Monarchs to list; Inge Nissen and coach Marianne Stanley.
