Big 12 makes about as much per team as the SEC even without the Conference Network so why bother.

Well, the SEC network is going to grow and with OU that growth could reach unimaginable numbers. Let's say a $50m per year payout as opposed to $23m a year.

Now that would be something. Interesting how people are talking about the demise of the Big 12 lately.

If we're patient, the Belt might pick up Texas Tech and Iowa State.

doubt if the sec is planning to expand and ou and osu are a package deal so that would be a twofer.

I could see it happening. The Big 12 died the day Texas and ESPN started the Longhorn Network. The Big 12 is going down the road of the Big East.

The G5 conferences better get ready for a remake if we want to survive. We need regionally tight conference that are easy to market to regional TV networks. Step into the spot that the P5 conferences used to fill.

This is not the first time we've heard this-pac 12 really gunned hard for Oklahoma; however both the Sooners and Oklahoma state have indicated they want to be in the same conference and essentially wouldn't leave without the other. So unless okie state got an invite I would think Oklahoma wouldn't go anywhere

I don't see the SEC taking those or any one of them.

The state population if less than 4 million.

Two teams to split that? Added Travel?
The SEC network could pick up nearly 7 times the cash flow by adding NC State and VT! And still be in the South East.

I doubt state population has anything to do with it-Arkansas barely has over 2.5 million and I think last I heard Mississippi was just over 3 million (and they have 2 schools!)

Oklahoma is a very profitable athletic program and with a large fan base-if they weren't attached to the hip with the pokes I think they would've been in the SEC with A&M, not Missouri.

Those States were added pre SEC Network. And now they already hand Reynolds Texas.

OU established as a national brand a long, long, time ago and that reputation persists today even though they have been more regional in later years.

I went basic and AIT at Fort Sill. Wasn't in the southeast back then. Maybe it's climate change.

Wish we could still have conferences based on geography. That was fun.

The sec doesn't care about population or market size, they care about $$$... Something OU and OSU have plenty of. Can you afford to keep up and do you field competitive teams and is your university 100% behind athletics.

You apparently don't know the history of the Southeastern Conference. Ole Miss and Mississippi State have been members for decades and decades back when the SEC was just an also ran. Texas A&M and Mizzou are Johnny-come-latelies who are reaping the benefits, much like Arkansas and South Carolina. If Vanderbilt wasn't a member there is no way they could enter the Conference today.

To be fair, no one saw Texas A&M moving to the SEC either. Most of their early posturings were followed by "Haha, you guys actually think you'll get into the SEC"

Next thing you know, they actually got into the league. The Big 12 nearly fell apart, and massive conference realignment began again.

Never put anything past the SEC in their quest to create the mini NFL.
