I also love how it just bugs Aggie fans that they went out with a loss. I dislike both but I feel like the Longhorns are the lesser of two evils.

Another thing. If for some reason that rivalry and TXST were on at the same time, I'd have to leave the party on Thanksgiving to watch the Bobcats.

I know very little about ut or a&m, curious as to why you think aggies are worse. From the outside looking in I would have thought the opposite.

UT/A&M is a long, storied, and intense rivalry . . . At least it was . . . One's point of view as to which is worse, and by the way that's clearly TU, just happens to depend on what side of the UT/A&M Fence you happen to be on . .. . .

That this game is longer played anymore, is a BIG Deal here in Texas . . . Huge Bragging Rights were on the line every year with this game . . . For some families, Thanksgiving devolved into Civil War . . .

Imagine an ACC Basketball season without a Duke/Carolina game . . . It's kinda like that . . . And one of the things I hate about realignment . . .

Sorry I wasn't clear in my question. I understand the tradition and rivalry. I was curious as to why you felt aggies were worse than horns. Kind of how in Georgia I view Ga Tech fans as less evil than UGA fans primarily because they are less obnoxious. From an outsider I assumed UT fans would be worse but as I said, know very little about the fans.

As a former resident of Texas [I am still a Texan, we are like Marines, no such thing as an ex-Texan] I will take a stab at answering your question. Both Whorn fans and Aggies can be a bit overbearing.

That being said, the Aggies are a family, a big, close-knit family that has been unmercifully ribbed for over 100 years about their school, their personal choices, just about everything. They are very proud of who they are and of their school; and they have developed sort of a persecution complex. They are fiercely loyal, and equally protective of their own. It is almost a band of brothers thing. Some people find that offensive.

The Whorns, on the other hand, are a bunch of self-absorbed, arrogant, at times obnoxious fans with a HUGE sense of entitlement. [Think LSU or UGA]

Aggies will welcome you into their 'family' if you want to join... Whorns don't understand how you can live in Texas and NOT want to be one of them.

Personally, though I like UT's sports teams as a casual fan, I find the Aggies a much more down to earth group, and if I had to chose which group I wanted to be identified with, I would be an Aggie.

I've worked with a lot of Aggies over the years. Good people all.

Speaking of the A&M-Texas rivalry, I'm surprised no one has mentioned the tragic deaths of those Aggie students years ago when the structure they were building for their game bonfire collapsed.

RE: Dave Campell's Texas Football
I should add, that as a non-conference visiting fan, there is no more hospitable group than the Aggies. If you are respectful toward them, they will go overboard to make your stay a pleasant one.

A visit to Kyle Field on game day should be on every college football fan's bucket list. Get there very early, visit with the tailgaters, who will be very hospitable and stuff you with BBQ and beer. Make sure you get to your seat early enough to see the Corps of Cadets march into the stadium. That is one of the greatest traditions in college football. If you are a band geek or a drill team geek, stay in your seat for halftime. The Aggie band is a great precision drill military style band. And don't leave early. At the end of the game, the Aggie team and staff will line up from end zone to end zone and face the home stands. Everyone will stand and put their arms over their neighbor's shoulders and sway from side to side singing the Aggie War Hymn. It literally looks like the stadium itself sways with the music. CFB traditions don't get no better than Game Day at Kyle.

All true.04-cheers Before his death from a lingering illness I managed to convince my dad to make that trip with me for a Cajun game at Kyle Field. And we did just as you said, got there early and made the rounds. He was a real people person and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The only negative during the entire day was a drunk Cajun fan giving one of the Cadets a rough time. I was so embarrassed by that display.

Of course, they throttled us so we know who got the last laugh.03-lmfao

I don't see any other posters routinely post blatantly incorrect, untrue information/pictures/stories...and she's supposedly a Mod!

Her defense will be "Don't shoot me, I'm just sharing the information" but honestly you have to either start using a little bit more prudence or just start each post with a disclaimer such as: "I have no idea what I'm talking about. I stalk people on twitter so I think I'm all-knowing, however I take no time or effort to verify any information so here is something that probably isn't true, but I will pass off as fact."

Uhh...What exactly was wrong about what she posted here? I guess if you could prove that she was doing irreperable harm to Texas State it would be one thing, but she's not. She posts on a message board. If we required every person here to post fully correct 100 percent accurate information without any jokes allowed, or twitter rumors posted, it would be a pretty boring place. That would leave us basically with just CajunFanatico...and he would be pretty bored.

This sums it up pretty good. I come from an agricultural family and so I was an A&M fan up until I went to college.

The whole problem I developed with them has to do with the bold part. See aggie jokes are a part of Texan culture and most of them are made by aggies themselves. However, some aggies can get ridiculously defensive. I've seen good friends of mine end friendships with other friends of mine because someone made a joke and to this day they refuse to hang out with each other. It's probably more of a personality issue than an aggie issue but it's trivial all the same. It's just a school.

Few schools have such a loyal fanbase though.

I feel the same way. For those who attended those schools, it's probably very disappointing. I get that. But I don't miss tshirt fans getting in a trash talking uproar every time the game rolled around.

well, at a-m they certainly indoctrinate the freshmen. when I was trying to decide where to go, a-m was all guys and you had to join the corps and do all that (to me ) goofey stuff so I crossed them off the list. only the twerpiest guys from my high school were headed to ut-austin so I was not motivated to go there. some of the cool kids were headed to texas a-i which was about 40 miles from the beach and 110 miles from mexico and had a pretty good engineering school so I went there. that place was great. my neighbor in the dorm was eugene upshaw the great oakland raider and later pres. of the nflpa. later my stepson graduated from a-m and ut med school so I cant be down on either school too much.
