Going west on I-10, there's a sign just after you cross from Louisiana that shows the mileage to El Paso. I forget the exact # but it's a more than a thousand miles. That has to be intimidating to anyone who is thinking about doing that.

My friends and I did it (drive across Texas) when we were broke college students going on a ski trip, and decided it would be cheaper to drive than fly. It took longer to get out of Texas than it did to get from the Texas border to Winter Park, CO.

Going through West Texas at night is crazy. You can see for what seemed like a 100 miles ahead of you, it's so damn flat. I say that because I think it was Amarillo (if I remember correctly) I saw in the distance, yet didn't reach it for over an hour. Then, when you hit New Mexico, talk about eerie with all their ghost towns and whatnot, and you only come across another car maybe every 30 minutes. Highways essentially pitch black.

At the end of the day, reality is slowly setting in at Texas that they aren't quite who they thought they were. They really don't have a bandwagon following like Notre Dame, Florida State, USC, Michigan, Florida, Ohio State etc.

I'm just going to leave this here.

Apparently there are a lot of UT alums buying a lot of Horns merchandise. That does not change the incontestable fact that UT does not now, nor have they ever had, a national following.

Are all Houston fans delusional and butthurt when it comes to Texas and the B12? Texas is definitely a national program with a strong strong following outside of their home state.

How then do you explain the failure of the LHN?

The LHN failed because most people actually don't give a $#%^ about the Univ of Texas.

They realized this too late.

Just for fun, I google mapped from Baylor to UCF and USF to see what the distance was...

So for UCF who is not considered too far away from the Big 12, it is 1,132 miles to drive from Baylor to UCF.

To drive from Baylor to USF, which is considered too far away from the Big 12 by some random Tulane fan, it is 1,130 miles. I guess his reasoning makes sense....

COGS

I've driven to both multiple times, and let me tell ya those last two miles are killer

To be honest Texas is just filled with people who tried to drive accross it and just gave up and quit driving. That state is just murder to drive accross.

The longest drive I've made is from Grand Forks, ND to Bozeman, MT. That was pretty insane. Driving across Montana is probably similar to Texas minus the traffic.

Now that I live back east, the longest drive I'll make is to attend a Temple conference game is to Cincinnati which is about 590 miles from my current location. I've driven through Cincinnati a few times on my way to Louisville.

I'm seriously considering attending the Temple- ECU game this year. Greenville is about 525 miles....

That's still a nice group my guess is they would stay together and go to 14 or 16 at the least 12 but the smart move would be 14 or 16. I think ECU UCF Cincy UCONN Memphis Houston USF SMU BYU Boise State SDSU would all be looked at.

You're wrong on the adds: East Carolina too far away; and you constantly disrespect Tulane. No way for USF either, also too far away.
But UCF isn't too far away? What about West Virginia now? Go back to troll school

You go back. Watch what happens. Your program is not the program to try to act elitist. Whether you want to admit it or not. Tulane is more similar to the big market schools than ECU. Geographically it is more like a La. Tech or Southern Miss. Larger crowds but not a market boon. Also you would be the 5th power school in one state. I'm not sure that is very helpful to your cause if TV is still a major factor. News flash... Not only does Tulane reside in New Orleans. We have only (one) power 5 school in our state. Watch what happens. I remember well (USM Backer) talking trash on Tulane for years. I'm not sure if he is even on the message boards anymore. (For obvious reasons) so stop calling Tulane fans trolls.

Yeah Tulane has it all. Except a good football team or basketball team. Or a decent sized basketball or football arena/stadium. Or the fan support other teams bring. The only upsides for Tulane is geography and has a decent market. Other schools bring that and more to the table. Tulane just doesn't bring anything that other schools don't do better. For example the ONLY thing that Tulane has over UCF is geography and that's because you're a little closer of a plane ride.

Remember, you are talking about University Presidents here, not AD's or fans. So AAU status and Academics play a very big role.

Don't bother. Many of these UH fans suffer from the same little brother delusional syndrome with UT as lots of UC fans do with Ohio State. It's apparently incurable.

What the Hell are you talking about?

http://www.burntorangenation.com/2015/5/...s-and-espn

Here's some simple math for you: Every major cable and satellite subscriber in Texas pays around $16.80 a year for the SEC Network. Every major cable and satellite subscriber in Texas -- except for those with Comcast, which doesn't carry it -- pays $3.48 for the Longhorn Network. So right now in Texas, the only state paying more than a quarter a year for the Longhorn Network, the SEC Network makes nearly five times as much every month. (Nationwide the SEC Network, on pace to do nearly $550 million in revenue this year, makes nearly 22 times as much money a month as the Longhorn Network.)

I've done from Houston to the other side about four times, but another time I drove straight to big bend which is just as bad because the last long leg isn't on such a major road as I-10. I actually really enjoy the drive. I feel it's very cathartic.

The cincinnati fan should look up the Houston UT rivalry before making blind unthinkable nonsense comments.

Most heated? I think all rivalries (Texas or otherwise) will forever take a backseat to Baylor-Texas A&M. I seem to remember hearing a story about an A&M fan being killed and they retaliated by loading a canon on a train, with the intent to fire it a Baylor.

Oklahoma - SEC
Texas - PAC
Cincinnati - Big 12
Memphis - Big 12
Connecticut - Big 10
Central Florida - ACC

Left over Big 12 schools will want to bolt once UT & OU leave.
Oklahoma State will want to ride with OU.
Texas Tech will want to ride with UT.

If somehow the chance comes up for the SEC to get into North Carolina, Im sure they'll take it. If not, Oklahoma State doesn't look bad.

Maybe 4 for 6. No way UConn to Big10 or UCF to ACC. None, never ever.

Yep. The ACC will eventually look to create an ACC network and adding UCF does nothing for them.
