Nice. Now make our communications department strong enough to populate the newspaper and TV stations to get rid of the BG and OSU love

RE: UT Launches Sports Production Program
Oh, so the MAC is finally allowing UT to gain something from its super secret pact with ESPN? How nice of them...

Hopefully they get some people that have experience doing this so its worth watching. Sometimes I think the marketing/event planning for sporting events is done poorly.

Very interesting. Looks like a great opportunity. It would be interesting to know how many schools are doing this, or if it is a unique situation for UT.

I think toledo is the 6th team. Eventually the entire MAC will be doing this.

Let's get an actual running clock and updating scoreboard on rocket vision. Not the keyboard updated garbage that is selectively updated now.

Great place to start would be with RocketVision:

HD broadcast

Consistent signal/feed elimination freezing shots and missing live action

Put the actual scoreboard, clock and shot clock on-screen

Include play-by-play for all broadcasts eliminating the PA announcer as the only audio

Agree with that. If Rocketvision can't match the quality of at least ESPN3, which isn't always 1080 nor always has the most knowledgeable announcers, maybe they shouldn't bother? Better no product than building up a rep for having a bad product.

RE: UT Launches Sports Production Program
I could be wrong, but I'm not sure there will be a Rocketvision any longer. I believe all the home games produced by UT will now be shown on ESPN3 ... as I recall the MAC/ESPN deal calls for the ESPN player to be embedded on the MAC and all university websites, so can't see how Rocketvision could remain. I guess we'll see when the new utrockets website is unveiled.

Helgren indicated they will be doing basketball, volleyball and baseball this year, and expanding from there. Was hoping to see soccer too, but there may be infrastructure that needs to be put into place to cover soccer.

I think you're right. I think the deal between the MAC and ESPN was that ESPN will do distribution and assist with supplying the proper equipment and technology, but the schools will do the actual broadcasting and production.

Of course nobody knows for sure since the deal was struck in extreme secrecy with the conference giving preferential treatment to some member schools over others. It's also odd that a conference comprising entirely of state schools can just sidestep FOIA requests regarding this deal.

RE: UT Launches Sports Production Program
RocketVision is provided by SIDEARM Sports streaming media. In reference to my suggestions, here is what the Streaming Media Manager for SIDEARM Sports wrote me:

It's mostly based off of available bandwidth at facilities and whether they [UT] have the bandwidth to push HD.

With that being said, I would expect that they have that kind of bandwidth, but can't promise anything.

We also can't guarantee what the graphics will be on a stream, that's all on the clients.
