What is your ideal number of football playing schools in the Sun Belt?
As I see it here are the options:

1. Add a 12th football playing school (probably in the eastern part of conference).

2. Remove Idaho in 2 years and become a 10 team football conference

3. Remove NMSU and Idaho in 2 years and become a 9 team football conference.

What would be your preference?

A 9 or 10 team conference round robin schedule seems small time. Since the sbc is seen as the bottom conference barely more than fcs it seems there would be a desire to distance itself from that perception.
when the b12 adds 2 teams the only conferences with a round robin schedule will be the sbc and fcs conferences.

Add CCU in the east and add NMSU for all sports and keep Idaho until Missouri State is ready.

No need to do anything.Perception will equal the reality when FCOA and strength of schedule needs distance FBS football from FCS.Glad we are on the correct side of growth

You neglected the fourth option: Do nothing until a desirable addition becomes available.

Mandatory expulsion and demotion to FCS to all schools who don't participate All Sports in the conference!

We can't kick UALR and UTA to FCS...they don't have football.

Actually Chief epiccajun is advocating dropping the entire conference except App St to FCS since they are the only school in the conference to sponsor all conference sports.

9 is the best for football.
12 is the second best with division play.

Ohh - the disbanding of the SBC ... I think a few of us have dreamed if that day!

Actually, I had a thought that App State could stay in a conference all by themselves and add as many East coast FCS schools, JUCO's, trade schools, and High Schools within a 60 mile radius as they can, so they wouldn't even have to step foot in an airport!

We would even leave them the keys to the SBC office in the Superdome! In fact they could have Krazy Karl have a permanent office on campus in Boone!

Then we could take a chance on seeing which of the other members survivie as an independent until the next realignment.

Maybe not as screwy as Power thinks. I'm sure a few Bowl games would sign an agreement with the Cajuns as an independent.

Not sure about the rest?

Gotta go 12. We don't want to be put in a WAC-like scenario where two defections puts us under the eight team threshold.

Karl has he vision, experience, track record and incompetence to duplicate exactly what happened to the WAC.

In fact he needs to boost the membership as high as possible to protect his job and the conference.

I could see the same thing happening to the SBC once the P5s realign and get to higher numbers.

The SBC will be the one to suffer as low man on the totem pole.

We have 11 teams. If we lose two...we drop to 9.

At last check, 9 is more than 8.

Eight meets the requirements and gives five OOC games.
The WAC Was the highest rated conference its last year.
That was because of the six game conference schedule.

Only an IDIOT would think that. Ask the opposing Power 5 coaches if they think our teams are "barely more than FCS". If you specifically mean an average SBC team is "barely more" than NDSU, you might have something there.

If the CCG is important and the rules don't change, I'd flip 12 and 9,
but lets go with a ranking

best: 9 ( eight game round robin )
better: 12 ( eight game - three cross division with CCG )
ok: 10 ( nine game schedule, fewer OOC with less flex )
current: 11 ( eight game schedule, but unbalanced and irregular )
weak: 8 ( seven game schedule, close to extinction )

RE: What is your ideal number of football playing schools in the Sun Belt?
Reasons to change Sun Belt makeup:
1. FB schedule is irregular
2. Two FB only, two Olympic only
3. Olympic round robins are too long with crowded schedule and fewer OOC options
4. FB CCG ( *pending final decision )

Reasons not to change Sun Belt makeup:
1. Wait for the FB CCG decision
2. Wait for football startup at UTA and/or UALR?
3. Wait for external moves? ( Big XII, or other )
4. Wait for FCS sought after candidate to prepare to move up?

Decision will be by committee, and with committees, remember:
'None of us is as dumb as all of us.'

I was responding to the statement by the Missouri State fan and didn't quote it.
