Our football coach is on record as advocating a 9 game conference schedule. I assume our AD would support it too. Do you guys think this has any chance of getting done, especially if Idaho is released and we play as a 10 team football conference?

I figured it would be a long shot. Somehow our AD needs to get a home-home for us vs a CUSA/MWC/AAC opponent

How would avoid playing the Cajuns with that kind of schedule?

From an outsider, I'd say it's going to be tough for you guys to get many home and homes with AAC programs, outside of an SMU.

ECU, Memphis, Cincy, UCF, USF, and UConn all have capacities of 40k and greater and average in that neighborhood with ECU averaging closer to 50k.

From an admin perspective, it makes little sense to have a H and H with schools in the 20-25k range due to lost ticket revenue. This is another reason you see these AAC schools being successful in getting H and Hs with lower level P5s with similar seating capacities and ticket sales.

I wouldn't mind just because it would the end whole debate on "so so school didn't play these schools"

With that that said I'd would prefer seeing the addition of NMSU along with another institute and boot the vandals out

No. We aren't the SEC.

If, say, we have a team capable of getting to the access bowl only having 3 OOC games (especially if one is an FCS) can hurt that team's chances.

Teams with
5 road games and 4 home games would whine about the one winning team with
5 home games and 4 road trips.

But it would be something different to complain about.

What is the benefit of a 9 game conference schedule?

If the conference downsizes to 10 football teams you would play every team.

Easier scheduling and no need for a championship game (if we have 10 teams) seem to be the perks. That being said, I'm not sold on it unless the majority of teams in the Belt start to have difficulty scheduling quality h&h's (which they aren't). We need to prove ourselves against the other conferences instead of beating each other up.

At least it would mean no one could say that a team avoided playing another team. the champion would have played everyone. No championship game would really be needed

I wouldn't think it would be advisable. Most SBC (and CUSA, MAC, etc.) need a money game; that only leave three non-conference games. You likely want a FCS game. G5 teams need chances to get good out-of-conference wins if we hope to make any headway in rankings and respect. IMHO.

Only as a last resort, we are not the Big XII, and even they were punished for it last year.

It kills your OOC chances for majority of the league...majority of the league would go 1-2 in OOC instead of a chance go .500... Possible even 3-1 heading into conference

The reason it works for the Big 12 is the $20 million per school from TV and the strength of schedule within the conference. The disadvantage is the five conference road games every other year. Both Baylor and TCU had five conference home games last season. This season it is five conference road games.

The SBC is just not good enough to go round robin and since there is no TV money, the extra money game or home game is too important at this time. I am not sure any G5 Conference could or should consider it. The G5 conferences get $1 million per school for the playoffs up to 12 schools, so ten schools is a loss of $2 million to the conference.
