RE: UNCW Bahamas Game Dates and Matchups Set
I'm ready to follow these Hawks. Hope that this trip will get them better prepared for the upcoming season. There's a lot of new faces and some key vets, but several have been here playing (via RS) so I'm expecting good things this year. UNCW hoops is on the rise and that's a great thing to write! Been a long time fellas since we've been Dancing...2006 and I was in Greensboro for that one. This program is headed back toward that direction and hopefully it won't be too long now. Keatts has upgraded the talent and can coach too. They have a legit chance to roll next year and will even be better the following year!

My memory is that when Buzz Peterson took that Freshman-heavy team down there a few years back he had to pull out all the stops to win the first game, and then we lost to the "Cybots" - a team with no player taller than 6"5" - in game 2.

If nothing else , it will be interesting to compare that experience to this one.

These trips also usually lead to improving schedules.

I wonder if The Mullet ever "wasted" his money on a trip to the Bahamas?

Maybe he and Ms. Cottonball ought to think about taking a "road trip" down there together in August so that they can report back to the board...

Look, it's a trip to the Bahamas. That's all it is. And, a chance to get some run against other teams. When you're competing for recruits, a chance to visit the Bahamas is enticing as a recruit.

It is a chance to get in 10 extra practices is what it really is and that is a good thing when you have so many new guys.

Its stupid and a waste of money that could be put to good use.No agrument for a UNCW to waste funds in this manner.

RE: UNCW Bahamas Game Dates and Matchups Set
Good to see ya posting 33! I was thinking about the team today and the rotations. WOW! It's a lot to speculate about let me tell ya. You have Talley at the point. Looking at last year...he was very impressive IMO. A terrific assist/TO ratio with almost a 2 steals per game average. Yes, his 3 ball percentage wasn't great but he was a freshman and shot nearly 80% from the line and was clutch. He was a terrific on ball defender and leader. It's hard to imagine him sitting very much. Go the the off guard spot....well CP was pretty doggone good and stepped up in games...kid has heart and that is something that NOBODY should discount. Hard to imagine him not getting good minutes. You have the xfer from Jacksonville, Haywood, that can really score and shoot (40% 3 ball) that sat out, he's gonna play big minutes because he's a top tier CAA talent. Does he slide over to the 3 or play 2? The other kid from UNCC is a very good talent at PG could slide to the 2 or compete with Talley or back him up. This guy should get 20 minutes as he's another 40% 3 ball guy like Haywood except he's more of a perimeter threat from what I've seen. What about Mark Matthews? He can absolutely score/make plays so he has to get in there somehow with his skill set-can he fit it at times at a 2/3 with another shooter like Haywood or an Ingram to wreck havoc from the perimeter? Now you go to the 3 spot...well we've discussed Haywood in a smaller lineup but now we are talking about Trey Grundy who is higher regarded according to all services who could play there or move over to the 4 with his size. The xfer from Barton, Flemmings, that can shoot 40% 3 balls and is athletic is another option as is CJ Bryce who is a highly athletic talented play maker and was one of the top NC recruits-he could conceivably play 3 positions one day. It goes on and on. Do you go big or small at the 4 and 5? You could go with the highly athletic freshman Cacok or the previously stated options or use the combination of Sherwood,Bryan,Ogbodo or Gettys.

If your confused or don't know...good, you should be. Just keep in mind that if you look at UNCW's best team IMHO....that went Burnette, Blizzard, Williams, Terrell and Calahan. That's 6'1", 6'4",6'7",6'6" and 6'8". Height was good overall-great athleticism and skill, but not overwhelming. Still they had a big back up like Coombs who was a terrific big and Stuart Hare that POSTERIZED USC in the NCAA's. My feeling is that you need a shot blocker at the back end with this style so expect to see some bigs in there that can do just that.

This team will be good because they have to go against quality in practice and could be dominant if they stick together for 1 more year. Same kinda that usually goes for UNCW baseball but next year could be rough due to all the guys going Pro early. They are good normally because they go against quality arms. The parallels are there in every sport. You play golf at a very tough golf course and succeed, you become good anywhere. That's why programs are programs and not just teams. This coach is very good and knows how to succeed. We have a good one!!

RE: UNCW Bahamas Game Dates and Matchups Set
IMO, the only real question will be Getty's. Does he have a place on this squad or not?

5 - Ogbodo/CJ/Cacock/Bryan
4- Sherwood/Grundy
3- Haywood/Matthews
2- Ponder/Bryce
1- Talley/Ingram

I watched Marcus Bryan out of Charlotte last year, and wasn't impressed. Maybe he will surprise. I could see him instead of Cacock simply because he's older. Again, it all depends on whether CJ fits anymore. We really need Chuck to step up and be a stopper in the paint. We have guards and forwards coming out of our ears. It's hard to tell who will be the best with such high quality recruits and transfers we've never seen.
More than anything, we need scorers and shooters. Our defense should still be strong.
I think Talley and Ponder are the only sure bets to start. The rest is up for grabs. I thought Dylan looked fantastic in the press last year, and at 6'9", he caused a lot of problems.

I have been to the Bahamas-not impressed for the money it cost as a tourist.I did enjoy Jamaica and it is quite a bit cheaper but has a real edge to it.

Seriously? That's your input. It's clear we have an abundance of talent that need to be tested in order to best judge our rotations prior to the season and your more concerned with the cost of the Bahamas vs the dump also known as Jamaica. LOL.

C'mon man! For starters, if there even is a bball tourney there the competition wouldn't be on the same level. In order to play games like this you HAVE to leave the country. What, you want us to be like the Fab 5 and your Europe? This is absolutely the best option both fiscally and tourney wise combined.

Stop being a hater.
