While I'm sure The Mullet calls it like he sees it, before we take his physical assessment of Gettys' physical shape as gospel, I'd like to see some collaborating eye-witness testimony. The Mullet has a tendency to be, shall we say, a little "negative" when it comes to things generally.

To get to The Mullet's assertion that he looked "fat and tall", how did he look? I will grant that he looked tall. But did he look more rotund than his slimmed down (though far from chiseled) self of last season?

I'm here at practice. And to say CJ is fat and out of shape is total BS. He's deflecting passes and diving after loose balls. To out him down at this point in time is purely ignorant. He's not a starter, but he can contribute. The kid is working hard. You have to work hard to even be out on the court with Keatts. Even in practice. Players that mess up so suicides. So far, he has not had to do any suicides.
With the walk-on from Loyola, we have 17. That includes the transfers who will sit out. Lots of bodies to practice with. Lots of options to go with. Cacock is the real deal. Matthews has some things to learn, and footwork to improve, but he is deadly.

Gettys shouldn't take it personally. The Mullet likes him about as much as he likes anyone....

By the way "deadly" shooting is something we haven't seen in a while. So that's a good report from practice!

We've got score real deal scorers. But the emphasis is on defense.

7 footers don't grow on trees, so giving up on CJ would be a mistake. I get that the CAA as a whole is going with smaller rotations, but even so you need a situational big man or 2 to get rebounds and putbacks. You can't go with a lineup where everyone is 6-8 or shorter all game.

Northeastern won the league last year primarily by having the league's best frontcourt. They ran a more traditional lineup out there, and it worked for the better part of the year and particularly at the tournament. Their size at least in part created space on the perimeter and allowed some lesser known guys to shoot the lights out.

Here's a Mark Matthews' twitter page, featuring (among others) a shirtless CJ Gettys . He's clearly not as ripped as the other guys (who..by the way...look to be in impressive shape), but I can actually see the suggestion of a washboard look in his stomach area.

I think CJ should challenge The Mullet to a "pose off" to see which one of them it is that looks "fat" these days...
