USM's longest tenured head coach had been the women's golf coach (15 or 16 years I believe) but since she retired after this past season the honor now goes to Joye Lee-McNelis (WBK) who just finished year 11th year. Jerry Weeks (MGolf) at 7 and Scott Berry (baseball) at 6 are the only other coaches with over 5 years as HC.

Interesting. On the flip side, there is this...

I wonder if there is anyone in the country that's been with the same school longer?

What does he coach? As far as I can tell, the list doesn't say. 01-wingedeagle

Most of the USM coaches are relatively new. Here's what we have and what year (I think) they just completed :

Womens BKB - 11
Mens Golf - 7
Baseball - 6
Womens Tennis - 3
Mens Tennis - 2
Football - 2
Soccer - 2
Mens BKB - 1
Softball - 1
Volleyball - 1
Track and Field - 1

Womens Golf - 15 or 16 (retired after the season)

Well, except for wbb (which has had a great tradition with insel as coach) the reason they have stayed so long is they haven't done a ton to move on... Kermit had a few good years but never did anything with those teams, which is why he never moved on. When was the last time MUTS football team was in contention?4/5 years ago? Even MUTS fans aren't entirely sure they like the coach (on field performance wise).

Actually we were in "contention" for the East the last two years in CUSA. Remember we beat you guys last year and finished ahead of you in the conference standings.

You are correct that, Stockstill's tenure here is a hot topic. The problem is that Stock and Kermit stay right on the line of decent seasons with an above average one thrown in every once in awhile. They never really have those awful seasons that warrant a firing and never have the consecutive great seasons to receive job offers. Although, Stockstill has had offers from Memphis and ECU and declined them after the 2009 season. I believe Kermit turned down Southern Miss as well.

That might be leading to the Watson Brown effect. We had pretty much the same w/ WB at UAB early in his career but overall a downward spiral that you saw leading to the fiasco of the last several years.

This year will be telling - we should be pretty good. Anything less than 7-5 will be a disappointment and a harsh critique of Stock.

I wasn't meaning any of it as a jab towards you guys, just it seems to have been a bunch of mediocrity witha good season here or there. If Kermit didn't best wku those two years when he who shall not be named was our head coach, he woulda been fired I bet. Then he had those good runs right after that.
