Full co$t of attendance numbers for Texas schools...
A look at the financial impact of additional benefits Texas colleges will be able to provide scholarship athletes (it's a slide show, so I pulled the numbers)...

Kind of surprised with the A&M & Tech numbers...

Baylor: $3,882
TCU: $4,700
Texas: $4,310
Texas Tech: $5,100 04-jawdrop
A&M: $2,706 04-jawdrop
Houston: $2,994
SMU: $2,700

UTEP: $3,100
UTSA: $2,500 (projected)
Rice: TBD
TSU: TBD
North Texas: unavailable

What I find strange is that TCU's is nearly twice that of SMU's in practically the same town.

Especially since cost of living in Highland Park is substantially higher than living in Fort Worth. Give it a few years, additional regulations will get passed that reel this stuff in. Either that, or everyone will regret doing this.

It's been interesting to see that in a lot of cases the schools with higher COA numbers are not who you'd expect. I didn't expect ECUs number to be considerably higher than NC State and UNC. Wouldn't expect Tech to be clearly the highest in Texas. I do find it funny though and the outrage by some who realize this might not be the advantage for them they expected.

something tells me that the schools probably already regret this COA stuff - I think it's a "no-win" for any of them - I really don't think that too many of them are / can be happy about it

I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out like this way:

Max payout by P5 schools: $10,000 ($1,000 increase every year)

Max payout by G5 schools: $5,000 ($500 increase every year)

P5 will do something to protect an advantage in LEGAL cash payouts to athletes...just sit back and watch it happen.

Memphis' CoA is $5,373 yet doesn't even lead in it's state. TN does -- 03-lmfao

It doesn't fit the narrative - which is "everyone can do it - now see how only we can pull it off".

This is about FCoA - schools are restricted on how much they can offer. You cannot put an artificial limit on this or you are breaking amateurism.

Thanks for the link. This is the first time SMU's numbers are in print - the fact that Tech is paying practically twice what we are should allow for some pressure to be put on our athletics administration.

Except the entire point of using COA was to keep the myth that they still aren't paying players and they aren't employees. Start paying set amounts and they are employees and will demand to be treated as such and the NCAA will lose that battle. The courts have already started ruling this way with the Obannon case and the Northwestern Union deal. The P5 is not really worried about the G5, they effectively won that game. They have to tread carefully to keep the courts and government at bay as long as possible. Making it a set amount screws that up immediately.

These numbers are pixie dust. Watch how they all miraculously change over the next year.

UTSA AD Lynn Hickey addressed this back in February stating UTSA would fully fund CoA at $3,551.

COA is not about an advantage for certain universities but to give back to the student athletes that make this all happen and to starve of athlete law suits and petitions to unionize.

Reported first in the local paper (pay site) and quoted here (free) >>

http://www.reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketbal...r_cost_of/

...In August, the U of M will face another fiscal challenge as it begins a two-year plan to phase in “cost of attendance,” a stipend to student-athletes voted in by the Power Five institutions in January and supported by the American Conference as a means to supplement a full scholarship.

Bowen said the university has determined the cost of attendance supplement — not a requirement for non-Power Five conferences — will be $5,373 per scholarship athlete.

Been no analysis produced by any credible source (see Commercial Appeal) to date comparing the COA of the four FBS schools in Tennessee. That is why I asked Tiger for his source. Shere Khan, you don't have to get so worked up about "Little Middle" cause Memphis will still only be able to win "One out of every Six Times" you play the Raiders! And, did you just make up the word "Interwebs?"
