The Tech guy over here is a joke. If the big 12 could dump them they would do it in a second. If they replaced them with SMU or UH then their payout would go up overnight.

I think they made a mistake. They listed Texas Southern? Texas Southern is FCS. Meanwhile, Texas State of the Sun Belt was left completely off the list.

I call BS. It may not be all the time, but I compared Southwest flights from Dallas to Lubbock and Dallas to Houston on the same random date 30+ days out. To Lubbock was actually about $10 cheaper than to Houston.

May not apply to all airports or all dates, but definitely not twice as much.

Since first reading this, I've wondered why Texas Tech was paying over five grand per stipend while the state average is about $3,200, give or take. I guess they're really trying to out-recruit every other school in the state. I don't know. Just an observation.

Actually, West Texas is an exceptionally expensive place to live. The oil boom going on there is making it more and more expensive by the month. Now, granted, the really expensive places are Odessa/Midland but Lubbock has also become expensive. Not sure if that will continue as the price of oil continues to be deflated, but it has had an affect on the price of rents in the area.

COA amount depends on your schools average financial aid pay out. Schools like East Carolina, Texas Tech, Tennessee (rural areas) typically have more students who need financial aid and the average for the schools is higher then schools who have a less financial aid student base.

LOL. This is so wrong it's not funny.

The cost of living index for Lubbock is 85.3 out of 100 scale, with 100 being the national average. In other words, anything below 100 is below the national average for cost of living. Anything above 100 is over the national average for COL. Anything below 90 is dirt cheap to live. Lubbock is one of the most inexpensive places in the US to live...by far.

See here:

http://www.city-data.com/city/Lubbock-Texas.html

The median house or condo value in Lubbock is 106K. That's right, 106K. The mean value is 130K. Far below the Texas average.

As far as Midland Texas, the COL index is 86.4, far below the national average of 100.

http://www.city-data.com/city/Midland-Texas.html

COL index in other random cities, Dallas 94.5, Atlanta 96.7, New York 163.3, Los Angeles 135.8, Miami 112.3. 100 being the national average for Cost of Living.
