"He was arguably the most charismatic performer of all time....His amazing unique verbal styling will never be duplicated or exceeded. He was exactly what he portrayed on TV: A blue-collar, common man, who rose from being the son of a farmer to being a part of American pop culture, whose memory will live forever. Therefore, for many he was truly the American dream."
He was my favorite wrestler, growing up. A lot of today's wrestling fans remember him as WWE portrayed him, where they had him wear this ridiculous polka dot outfit and come out to an equally ridiculous entrance theme. But he was fun to watch back in the days of the NWA from the mid 70's to late 80's.
best atlanta gag ever was the horsemen jumping dusty on the side of the road, tying him to a truck and "breaking" his arm with a baseball bat to get some revenge
Feel sorry for Goldust and Stardust. Don't laugh, WWE fans understand... ;-) Dusty had a little 'bit' on WWE late last year I think with his boys... the gimmick was Dusty getting them their job back. IIRC, Dusty even got clocked by someone, TripleH I think...
RIP.
EDIT: Nah, it was the Shield! This is what I was thinking of...

This was really messed up when I was a young kid. The Million Dollar Man paid off Dusty's girlfriend Sapphire to leave him right before his match with the Macho Man which really messed up his head, cost him his match & then Dusty went running after them as they sped off in a limo leaving him dejected, broke & without a woman.
Growing up in Texas, during the 70s and 80s, I did not see a lot of Dusty in our territories. So I missed a lot of him during his heyday. My favorite wrestler growing up was the Junkyard Dog.
You can definitely tell that Dusty was a great wrestler by the longevity of his career and how his fans loved him. He will definitely be missed.

Sad thing is that Goldust vs. Stardust w/ Dusty ringside was penciled in for Wrestlemania 31, but Vince scrapped it whenever they got ONE bad reaction from a terrible crowd. I believe it was Memphis, actually. Now, we'll never get that match.
Kind of a powerful promo now when you look back on it.
