We are about 25 days into the "30-45 day evaluation" period
Since the Ark. St. guy said the evaluation for new members would take 30-45 days about 10 days have passed. So we will see what happens.
Who knows if we hear something before football season or not. I would suspect either some decision is made and announced before July 1 or it will come after football season is over--- just my opinion.

I think if the pick is an FCS we hear nothing.
No reason to announce one before they finish the season since they can't start transition this year.

Good question. I thought we would already have an answer on the CCG game, but I have heard nothing definite one way or the other.

Over on the EKU board someone said EKU expected an answer from the Sun Belt on June 22 as to whether they would be invited or not.
So maybe we hear something then

Why why why in god's name would we do something like EKU at this time? Why?

I guess the push is on big time for a 12th basketball school. I think there is a decent chance of some addition in the next few weeks

Because nothing is going to change in the landscape over the next 2 years that would produce better options for us. That's why.
If anything, another quake in the P5 would trickle down and take members from the SBC and in that case it still would be good to have committed teams coming in. But it now appears the P5 will stabilize and CUSA will not lose a member so even more reason to move on.
In short we know the landscape and the available teams and there is a consensus to move forward. This has been going on for two years. It's time to move forward.

I honestly say the same thing.I hope it's some fulcrum to nudge JMU as I can't see any reason why we "settle" for a warm body in their present state.

Why would we want JMU when they have made it clear they want to go somewhere else?

In short we know the landscape and the available teams and there is a consensus to move forward. This has been going on for two years. It's time to move forward.
What could change is EKU could finalize their stadium. Coastal Carolina could step up and expand theirs. Missouri State could decide to make a move to FBS (though I really don't think that affects the eastern team add). A yet unnamed team could step up and be more attractive. There could be a shakeup in the P5 that results in them taking a team from CUSA (giving them 13) and they finally realize that 12 is the best number, so an established FBS team becomes available.
I understand scheduling 11 in basketball (and all Olympic sports, I assume) sucks. I know having 11 football playing members sucks for scheduling. But those teams that are out there... They aren't going anywhere. They will be there in 1, 2, 5, 10 years down the line. We can pick them up anytime we want. So see how the landscape shakes out, let them get better prepared, and THEN add.
That way, they aren't going through as many growing pains in the move up as they normally would. They still won't have an App or Georgia Southern type move up, but if we put them in the best possible situation to move up (they have their facilities rebuilt, we give their new coaches a chance to get a few classes in, etc), it can be less of a pain.

I will be glad to hear the news of adding someone as this has drug on for over a year now. I hope we add Coastal or EKU. I am less optimistic about Missouri State at this time...but for goodness sake go ahead and add NMSU in all sports.

Expansion talk has been ubiquitous here ever since GS joined/I started coming here. It does help kill some time, but dadgum, I wish something would happen.
In other news, I just became the first person in the history of the world to use the words ubiquitous and dadgum in the same post

ULL wants to go somewhere else too ......What presidents say to each other in private is all that matters and like all politicians they fall in/out of love with each other quarterly.....
It's a seller's market so I wouldn't fill compelled to add anyone frankly. It's a different Sun Belt than it was even 5 years ago,we have some programs making tremendous investments now.

Indeed. What JMU said in the past and what they might decide to do today may be two completely different things especially with the changes coming in their state laws as it relates to athletics.
If they're absolutely sure that C-USA will not expand at this time but believe the Belt will, they might make a move.
Having said all of the above, I still don't see the need for expansion at this point but if we do I'd rather see a program with a significant athletic budget and fan support be the choice. I believe JMU fits those criteria.

I have a feeling our admin took that stance because they thought they had a bird or two in their hands with MAC/UMass and CUSA/UAB. Whether the realities of the last year are enough for them to change their tune I don't know but I fear (as many fans do) they will continue to hold out.
On a side note, you can't hold the entire university responsible for the poor vision of a few. I would never lay into SBC or its schools with a snobby attitude until we were safely within the conference. Then the gloves come off.

It's a good thing the SBC doesn't let past talk from a few admins. keep one from becoming a member. Or else GS would still be in the socon.
Just to remind some on here, our past president and A.D. were not very nice when talking about the SBC. Of course they were determined to keep GS in the FCS no matter what conference invited us. I truly believe they would've turned down the SEC.
