Disco Diaco is such an entertaining read.

Diaco just named Army, Vilanova, and Towson State as rivalry games.

It's too bad Memphis and ECU are at opposite ends of their states or we could have some border war fun

A little distance is not stopping UConn and UCF from doing their rivalry thing. Actually I guess that it is just UConn.

Memphis and Cincinnati are connected by the Ohio River via the Mississippi River. Lets start up the defunct Rivercity Rivalry we had with Pitt...The Paddlewheel Trophy is just collecting dust in UC's trophy case. Start it up again and we can continue it when we are both in the B-12 a couple presidential administrations from now.

This is silly.

When Bill McCartney took over the Colorado football job many years ago, he recognized that Colorado did not have a true rival in the Big 8. His solution- He highlighted the Nebraska game in red. The Nebraska game was Colorado's rivalry game. Nebraska was not asked for permission. The game became important because Colorado said it is important.

So be it.

South Florida and ECU are rivals. USF owned ECU for a number of years while in C-USA. Things have cooled because USF hasn't been as strong. That is going to change because USF is a recruiting beast.

UCF and ECU have a bit of a rivalry going. That's great news. We want to win and it means more when we defeat each other.

So be it.

Those two actually became pretty good rivals after Oklahoma was not an every year game. The 1989 game is what really kicked it off from a Colorado perspective. The Husker fans never got behind it completely but did understand the yearly importance of the game in terms of Big 8/Big 12 supremacy. It really took prominence when the game was moved to Thanksgiving Weekend in the mid 90's.

I actually have some really fond memories of watching those two play. I really wish Colorado would become good again. Folsom Field is a great venue for a big game. Growing up they were a yearly power. I had childhood nightmares over the '90/'91 Orange Bowl and the clip call....

That is almost as far fetched as UConn v. UCF silliness. Memphis is no where near the Ohio River.

Diaco is on thin ice. Nothing good has happened since he arrived, except for a slight improvement in our football helmets.

I'd compare UCF/ECU to FSU/Clemson. They played a lot of games and compete for division title year in and year out... But were they really rivals till it became the Bowden Bowl? Tommy Bowden vs Bobby Bowden

UCF/ECU has more going for it than anything UCF/UCONN (regardless of how much UCF/ECU may not be a true rivalry). The headlines are because of how strange UCF/UCONN is, not how natural it is.

This "rivalry" is the only thing in the world possibly keeping this from being a noon kickoff where the only winner is the sun. I will make myself a civil conflict t-shirt with puffy paint if we can get a night time kickoff out of this nonsense.

Reading comprehension is fine. The Ohio River meets the Mississippi River somewhere near Cairo, Illinois. You can call it the Cairo Classic or something, but the concept is crazy.

No, it's not for real. If he has another year like last year? Yeah, I'd say he is. As of 6/9/2015? No, he's not.

Also keep in mind UCONN-SMU was rooting for SMU hard in the game last year. So, his take on anything UCONN related is dubious at best.

Maybe memphis could be a rival now that they are playing better football, but we don't play them annually. For them to be a rival we would need to play every year. Memphis never beat us in the cusa days so I didn't consider it a rivalry back then but more as just a W on the schedule.

My gut reaction is that.......
  • If you have to think about it, (like you've described above) it ain't one.
  • If your fanbase naturally dislikes another program without prodding, it probably is one.

Based on that, it ain't one......yet and won't be one until one program/fan base cause natural strong dislike.

note....we do teach proper use of the English language here. I use the improper for emphasis.
