RE: 2015 MLB Draft - Monday @ Noon thru Wednesday
FYI, last year the draft was 40 rounds, with the first two taking place on Day 1, rounds 3 thru 10 on Day 2, and rounds 11-40 on Day 3.

I expect it will follow the same format this year. Meaning Jenkins will likely be taken Day 1, and any other Seahawks will likely go on Days 2 and 3.

Ah, I only now realized I had the time wrong for Round 1, haha. Thread title fixed. I guess they decided to go the NFL route and put the first couple rounds in "prime time".

I actually think moving it to prime time is beneficial for fan excitement... If that's possible with an MLB draft.

Generally no. It's hard to be familiar with a lot of the names in the 1st round year in and year out. Mostly because of all the High School kids.

Not to mention it's hard to translate in baseball because kids get drafted, then disappear for several years while playing in luxurious destinations such as Binghamton New York, Montgomery Alabama, and Reno Nevada. In the NFL and NBA, those kids immediately get rostered by the pro teams and can make an impact right away.

I agree with you on that, but by actually showing the draft in a time slot that is feasible for kids/parents/adults, etc to watch... it makes the MLB draft more appealable to the masses. MLB is already a leg down in terms of draft excitement because it's DURING the season. The other major sports use the draft as a way to drum up excitement during the off season.

2015 MLB Draft - Monday @ 7 PM thru Wednesday
MLB is such a long season that I don't think it's a big deal to have it midseason. Certainly I doubt that having it in February would make people watch it.

The NFL and NBA drafts are more interesting because there's a direct relationship for the pro fans. The teams that are taking players in the first 20 picks or so will likely be starting those players immediately. In MLB, it takes years for those kids to make an impact, especially if they're 18 year olds. And when you look at the history of top picks, the bust rate of those players are much higher than in the NBA/NFL.

Most importantly, college football and basketball are FAR more popular than college baseball. So the notoriety of those prospects is far higher as well. We all knew who Andrew Luck and Anthony Davis were long before they got taken # 1.

In the first 20 picks of the draft, 8 were hs players. None of which named Jenkins.

Is anyone else rooting for him to go tomorrow?

2015 MLB Draft - Monday @ 7 PM thru Wednesday
The analyst during the draft said, "yeah, he shocked everyone by picking a school close to home in UNC Wilmington. That choice is in jeopardy now."

Yeah... We know. Way to rub it in. I don't like how they act like we're some random school. We've shown recent and sustained success and our future is looking better and better. Give us some respect MLB Network!!!

Blue Jays ended up taking a pair of right handers, 1 from Missouri St, the other a HS kid. They were linked most with Jenkins so I wonder if they're pissed he didn't fall to them 11 picks later in the 2nd.

Diamondbacks open up Day 2 by taking Charleston ace Taylor Clarke to open the 3rd round. Guess they're about to lose him!
