RE: CFP Discussing New Workaround For the Army-Navy Game Issue--CBS Sports

What if the scenario was - Navy wins the AAC with an 11-0 record, ranked No. 8 in the country. Army is also 11-0 and ranked at No. 5. Both Army and Navy are slotted for NY6 bowls - and rightfully so.
The next best G5 champion is Georgia Southern from the Sun Belt at 9-3, ranked at No. 29 by the Selection Committee. Boise St., Northern Illinois, and Marshall win their conferences, but each has at least 3 losses and is ranked at No. 30 or worse. Five other AAC teams are ranked ahead of Georgia Southern.
Does it make sense to switch out top-10 Navy for an unranked Sun Belt champ? And to drop top-10 Navy from an NY6 bowl to the Sun Belt's bowl - which could be against an American opponent?
You wouldn't swap them. Top 10 teams don't drop out of the top 25 just because they lose to the #5 team. They might drop a few slots---but Navy would still be the top G5 team and would still be looking at an access bowl slot.

Wouldn't it make more sense to move the Army-Navy game to Veteran's Day or the Saturday closest to Veteran's Day.

Wasn't the proposal that if Navy lost to Army to swap AAC champ Navy for the next highest ranked G5 champ?
Or, would we want the Selection Committee to re-rank the G5 champs again after the Army-Navy game?

I like this! But, it still won't get the same ratings, exposure, following, and excitement as being the only game of the day in early/mid December.

Yes, sounds good. Though one could argue that with a loss to Army, Navy would deserve to fall lower than the overall #2 spot in the G5. But there are probably too many moving parts to place them anywhere else.
One caveat: If the team that replaces Navy in the Access bowl is from another conference, than that means that conference might have a team miss a bowl because it has to give up its bowl slot to Navy, so in that case the AAC should have to give up one of our bowl slots so that the conference that loses that slot to Navy is made whole.

Agreed. I think I mentioned that somewhere as well. We should have plenty of slots. Even if we don't, its worth it for the conference to give up our bottom bowl to guarantee our champ wont be left out if it is Navy.

I still say the easiest solution is just move the Army-Navy game to the weekend before Labor Day weekend. It would be the only game that weekend after a long off-season everyone would be ready for football and it would have huge ratings. I personally believe it would make the game even more special knowing it's always the first game of college football season every year.

It's an 'easy' solution but IMO not a good one. The Army-Navy game is one of the signature events of the season, and part of its appeal is the December time slot, with cold weather, possible snow, the midshipmen and cadets bundled up in their long dress coats.
Let's face it: With global warming, too much football is played in 80+ degree weather these days, the first 3-4 weeks in many places, but football is best when played in the fall and winter. We need more games played later not fewer.

Watching and playing football is horrible in late fall/early winter in cold climates. I much prefer to watch BYU play in California or Hawaii in November. Although an actual snow game is awesome - but November is more like bitter cold or wet.
