Exclamation UAB football reinstated is a good thing
For all those who say P5 schools are the only sustainable programs going forward: they are wrong. No one will drop football in the years to come and their will be MORE FBS schools. Good.

RE: UAB football reinstated is a good thing
I like UAB. I don't mind them coming back since they have real tradition in FBS.

With that said, adding additional FBS schools weakens the TV value and leverage of all of the long-time members. You really can oversaturate the market with college football inventory.

There is such a thing as having too many G5 schools.

We haven't seen the end of this ride yet. Let's see some more red ink spilled before we say that there are 125+ "true" FBS schools.

It's not good generally for those G5 schools that are trying to compete. If you add another 20 or 30 schools with no plan, no facility, no intention or strategy for being competitive, it actually weakens the case for equality across the division.

If they can lump ECU into a bucket with Georgia State and UAB, how on earth does that help ECU?

Another thing to worry about:

Schools like SMU, Cincy, Houston and Tulane - your conference mates - have dumped NINE FRICKING FIGURES in completely rebuilding football facilities. Those schools NEED to schedule good opponents - and overloading the FBS ranks waters down the value of their investment.

my point is that there will not be any G5 schools dropping football like a lot of troll internet fan board fans of "P5" schools have been touting. I don't want more G5 schools necessarily, but I'm saying no one in FBS will drop football for decades if ever. This was the first attempt in decades at doing so. (early 90's Cali big west schools) and ultimately it was reversed in 6 months. No FBS will attempt to drop football and many many FCS will try to upgrade.

I guess a good thing for CUSA not having to expand with another Sun Belt team and keeping a good UAB Basketball team in the league. If UAB could build a nice 30k seat OCS they could probably compete well in CUSA.

Neither Cincy or SMU has rebuilt their facility during their time in the AAC. Also, ECU has spent nearly 200 million in the past 8 years on facilities. So don't act like we're standing idle.

hate to be that guy but nothing was said today making it a stone cold lock UAB still ever plays another down of football. Watts put a lot of conditions in the way of " working toward football returning in 2016".

Let them have a BOR. Let the same brain trust that made bham the great city it is run the place. Take away the med school and let bham fund the school

Great idea

RE: UAB football reinstated is a good thing
i was joking around this afternoon that maybe this whole thing was a giant marketing scam - after all before all of this, how many people in other parts of the country even knew uab had a football team?

I think a lot of what he said about conditions and so on is probably some facesaving b.s.
