UCONN-UCF rivalry
It does seem forced but I like this idea. UCF doesn't have any trophy games during the year so this gives us one. It may not be a good rivalry yet but if we start playing for this trophy every year then, in 10 years or so, it could become heated. I'm on board. Helps UCF build tradition too. It's gotta start somewhere. Why not now?

What's that supposed to mean?

We speak nicely to each other.

I was thinking Yankee/ Confederacy reference

Which one is Yankee? Florida isn't the Northernmost southern state for nothing.

RE: UCONN-UCF rivalry
They have a countdown clock to when we play again. We've played twice. USF doesn't have a countdown clock for us as far as I know and there's a genuine mutual hatred.

UCONN-UCF rivalry
I fine with this and am happy to be in a conf with uconn. We play tight in many other games. I am really surprised they didn't have the 2013 game on there. It happened.

RE: UCONN-UCF rivalry
I am so confused about what in the hell our head coach is doing. UCF has a good football team, and I will look forward to the game. But there is no rivalry and their won't be a rivalry. And even if there were to a be a rivalry with UCF, you would think our coach would at least pick up the phone and talk to UCF about it.

Very very odd and head-scratching. Who knows, maybe we're going to the Big 12 together or something.

You guys are overthinking this. Here is your answer, How many conference games did UConn won last year? And Who did they beat? There is your answer for this dumb stunt

We need to have something big with USF. Not sure why we don't have a trophy for that game.

RE: UCONN-UCF rivalry
The funny thing is UCF was completely shocked by the tweet. No one in our program had any involvement in creating a trophy or a "rivalry" game with UCONN.

I'd be satisfied with Genshaft's head if we win this year. We could go all "Game of Thrones" on each other. 07-coffee3

I've heard it a couple times on this message board, but I'm really not sold on the idea of a UCF ECU rivalry. It feels just like two good teams who happen to be in the same conference. (Same as I feel with UCF Houston).

That's why I started my statement with "If". All of our real rivals are OOC, though if you ask NC State and UNC, they would tell you they don't have a rivalry with ECU. We could have a rivalry with Va Tech, but we need to win more often. We're just too far away from the rest of the conference to build a true rivalry.
Southern Miss was a rival.

Meh. We just played them a ton. NC State is our only true rivalry.

RE: UCONN-UCF rivalry
UCF and USF, natural rivals, came up with a manufactured branded rivalry through the admins - I-4 Corridor Clash or something. Even though it was a joint effort, they were smart enough to casually drop the name and branding.

My experience has been that rivalries in this league (and pulling from our time in C-USA) will be hard. The problem is that it takes both teams winning consistently to have joint fan interest. Once that happens, the games have a way of moving to non-Saturdays. That makes travel harder than it already is for these fanbases. That kills the momentum.

Good example is UCF vs. ECU. It's a driveable game on a Saturday and both teams have had good years. But about half of our games have been on non-Saturdays due to the situation. After 9 years playing since 2005, I have still never been able to make a game at ECU in person and it's not for a lack of wanting.

I'm not sure id call a 12 hour drive very drive able on an average Saturday.

RE: UCONN-UCF rivalry
I don't like manufactured trophies to try to sell a rivalry. It will develop in playing games. USF vs UCF is a natural and will get more heated as we play and knock each other from championships in the future it doesn't need a fake trophy.

It's not a day trip for sure. But it's definitely something that makes sense on a weekend - fly or drive. For driving I'm picturing the student groups and even the band. Playing on a Sunday or Thursday as we have a few times makes it hard for either group to attend. And for the fans that would fly like me - I ended up flying to UCONN on a Saturday versus ECU on a Thursday because I was saving vacation days.
