I wonder how the COA will impact Hawaii? I know there was some talk of them dropping football at one point.

Don't know if COA will be the straw that breaks that camel's back, but I do believe it's only a matter of time till that program bites the bullet.

You don't save any money cutting football at Hawaii. Football by itself at Hawaii is profitable. They just don't make enough to cover the other sports. Their profit is down because the football team has not played well recently, but dropping football just makes things worse. They are not going to drop football.

Hawaii instead of cutting football cut the AD who floated the idea.

There is a report out that said Hawaii will offer COA and add about another $4-5k per/athlete. They just came out with an estimate they are going to be running a 4.6 million deficit.

The situation at Hawaii is different than say a UAB. Hawaii pays $2 million in travel subsidies to the conferences that they belong to ($700,000 to the MWC and $1.3 million to the Big West). The state of Hawaii gets all of the revenue from parking, sponsorship and concessions at Aloha Stadium. The Hawaii athletic department get none of it.

Then you got people in the state that want no cuts to Title IX sports programs, which would not happen if football was eliminated. They gain nothing by cutting football and they know it. Basically, this is just a cry for help. They need the state to do more.

You can win in Hawaii, June Jones proved that. They just need the right coach.
