Southern Miss clearly deserved to be in the tournament. There are several who were less deserving among the 64 invited. However, much like the NCAA BB tourney there are over 30 auto-bids extended to various conferences and (with the exception of Rice) CUSA has not
established a National Reputation in Baseball!

Dont agree with that last line. Rice ecu usm tulane houston had all been stellar in cusa baseball. Conference alignment aside, I thought it was pretty lame.

Especially with an oregon getting in. Shrug :(:(

Our problem at USM is that mediocrity is just fine now. We like playing whore games and look forward to them.

The late surge was nice, but ultimately, everything leading up to it was what did us in. The end may have been stellar (conference tourney notwithstanding), but the season as a whole was quite a bit less than that. If you don't want to deal with the committee's decision, don't leave it in their hands.

AGREED. Home losses to New Orleans (271) and Oakland x2 (240) were too much too overcome. There were more than enough good midweek wins including Ole Miss x2 (31), South Alabama x2 (81), Tulane x2 (43), Alabama Tuscaloosa (45) but it goes back to those 3 early season home losses. One more weekend that looked bad on paper at the time but doesn't appear as bad now RPI wise was going 0-2-1 in a tourney against North Florida (44), Saint Louis (98) and Nicholls St (tied 2-2)(82). IN MY OPINION if we could've gotten 1 win out of those 6 games (5 losses, 1 tie) AND one more win in the CUSA tournament, in which we hosted), I feel like that would've been the difference in us being selected....but that's just my opinion.

USM's team had their chance on their home field in the tournament and did not get job done. Best of luck to the 3 CUSA teams in the tournament.

I also think that #199th ranked non-conference Strength of Schedule killed you (and adversely impacted your RPI). One of these days your Coach will learn to schedule tougher OOC weekend series. However, in the end, it was the reality that the Committee was never going to select 4 teams from the 8th ranked RPI conference. I'm pretty sure that was the gating factor.

Not only that, we had the nerve to lose some of those games.

Oregon's non-conference SOS was ranked 246th.

Our schedule has never been this weak. Granted, it has never been "good"....but not this bad.

Really, there's no excuse for it either--especially with Memphis, Tulane, and ECU leaving the conference. These are good potential OOC programs that we have relationships with. There is no reason that we shouldn't be able to get a weekend series with Memphis and/or ECU and keep two midweek games with Tulane since they are so close.

I disagree with your last sentence, though. I have never seen evidence that the NCAA committee thinks that way. IMO, FAU winning the conference tournament hurt us in the same way that any other underdog winning their tournament did.

Oregon's non-conference SOS was ranked 246th.

I don't think SOS, on its own, holds much weight given that it already represents the majority of your RPI.

RPI certainly did adversely affect Oregon--to the point that a team that went 10-10 against the Top 50, 17-11 on the road, and played almost half their schedule against Top 100 competition was on the bubble. A team with those credentials is normally a lock.

One of the best Southern Miss games I've ever been to was against UCF in 2012. They came in ranked in the top 15 and we beat them 1-0 in 14 innings on Friday night. Our ace Andrew Pierce went 9 scoreless innings and then our freshman All-American closer Bradley Roney shut them down over the final 5.
