Former Louisiana Tech pitcher Phil Maton was selected by San Diego Padres in the 20th round of Wednesday's 2015 MLB Draft

Maton, a second-team All-Conference USA selection in 2015, appeared in 15 games with 14 starts for the Bulldogs this past season. The right-handed pitcher led Conference USA with 90 strikeouts and finished with a 4-4 record and a 3.68 ERA.

Speaking of Padres, they drafted Louisiana Tech signee J'Mar Smith in 24th round. He signed as QB for football team

Charlotte signee Andrew Jordan (RHP/Hunter Huss HS) was drafted in the 14th round by Cincinnati. Despite previous reports that he was still coming to Charlotte, his mind was changed by a $300,000 signing bonus AND the promise to pay his college tuition.

We had a signee, Josh Magee, drafted in the 5th round by San Diego. Zero chance he makes it to Hattiesburg.

This happens to every school. It stinks for the fans but I understand completely. Hard to turn down $300,000 and risk being injured or risking that your draft status declines after going to college.

I don't blame kids that take the money.
Our center fielder, Connor Barron, was a 3rd round pick of the Marlins out of high school. Don't know how much he turned down, but rumors were they were asking for around a million to sign.
Didn't sign and then went undrafted after his junior and senior seasons.

Oh, I know. We had an 8th rounder (Tyler Barnette) just a few years ago that actually did turn the money down though and came to school. He is doing well in the White Sox organization now.
