OT: Miami and the local MLS team might share a new stadium
The proposal would be 40-45K seats that would be for the MLS and Miami Hurricanes football team.
I feel like Miami is no longer a big time program.

RE: OT: Miami and the local MLS team might share a new stadium
what are the local miami fans opinion on Donna Shalala to me everything started going down when she came along,
i know she was brought in to help stop the bad boy image (which im not even sure why it was that big a deal)
but mimai has just sunken to new lows in the modern era since she took over
i know sanctions played into t but 2 self imposed bowls on mediocre seasons and having 22 instead of 25 scholarship over 3 years shouldnt have been that big

Because it is Miami, there are a lot of options and if the Hurricanes aren't in title contention the fans will be no shows.

The stadium photos from the last 6 years didn't already prove that? All that needs to happen is a couple of below .500 seasons and they'll be back to the mid-70s and late 90s.

Why do you think that? If they do build it that stadium will have all the latest bells and whistles because that's what Beckham has been proposing. The truth is that UM has never needed a 80k stadium and now a days the move is to have smaller stadiums full of the technology and amenities that will attract the fans and allow you to charge for those tickets. More money comes from TV.
I think IF send that's still a big IF, they do partner with Beckham and build that 40-45k stadium own by the OB it would be a home run move for them

Don't see that ever happening...especially since the Dolphins owner is spending $400 Million to renovate Joe Robbie Stadium (again), including adding scores of new high revenue amenities, plus, shade panels surrounding the entire stadium.
Hurricanes set up will be approx 50,000-55,000 seats at Sun Life...with the Dolphins some 10,000-15,000 more.
Here's a Miami Hurricane Video about the new stadium renovation: (some mistakes as the upper end zone seats at Hurricane games will be covered by giant banners)

they were just averaging 70k in 2002 (capacity)

That was in the OB in a different time for UM football. In the last 10 years they haven't broken the 60k mark never at Dolphin stadium in which the best is around 53k and that's on years when they play FSU or Florida at home in others is in the 40ks
By the way even the 70k in 2002 was inflated because it has always been tickets bought and handed out not butts in seats and it was packed for the big games but you would be lucky to have 20k there for a game vs Temple etc

Miami is a private version of Temple in a better neighborhood, with a lot more football success. 40K is right for them.

Why, 40 K is all they really need, even back when they were winning national titles, they struggled to draw that at times (the historic 2001 team averaged to draw only 46-47K on the season).
If there's a big enough need for more seats, they can just move a game to Joe Robbie "C2 refuses to use the corporate names" Stadium.

There was a similar idea floated for the Houston Dynamo and UH but there were so many issues with the Dynamo when they were playing at Robertson I don't think it was ever seriously considered.

Nova's was after the fact. It was a consideration building PPL Park on/near Temple's campus as a shared stadium.

Don't think so other than it being Nova playing in a soccer stadium. This is a plan to build from scratch a real fancy, techie stadium that would house football and soccer. It won't be cheap

The Dolphins owner is not letting Miami out of their contract. I believe it's a 20-30 year deal.

Donna wanted to model the school after Duke.

That will not be an issue if they can get the funding to build it. That's the major hurdle.

22 miles (30-40 mins. driving depending on traffic). For reference, where I grew up in the suburbs is only 10 miles from Temple (25-30 mins. driving depending on traffic)
For how not very spread out E. PA is, Chester is very far away.
