the top 4 teams are really equal on paper. you can make strong cases for each program to win the conference, it will be a fun ride seeing how things fall into place.

Much respect for what the eagles have accomplished thus far, but this league has benefited from Blakeney's pre-retirement slide down the standings (there are a few decent coaches too). I look forward to seeing every team on the schedule again...03-2thumbsup

RE: First Pre Season Mags Are Out
The conference looks to have 3 distinct groups of teams that could finish in any order within the group.

Top 4- App, A. State, GS, UL (8-0 is likely needed- GS has a huge advantage in playing only 1 of the other 3)

Next 4- Tx. State, Troy, ULM, USA (5 conference wins should top this group)

Bottom 3- GSU, Idaho, NMSU (2 conference wins should win this group- 3 will definitely top it)

RE: First Pre Season Mags Are Out
I don't know if GS has a huge advantage, yep, they only play 1 of the other 3, but App has all 3 at home, and APP, ULL, Ark. State, because we play each other, all control their own fates, GS could be sitting at the end of the season, watching and waiting to see what happens in 2 or 3 games, that they have not control over, I could see them move up 2 or 3 spots or dropping 2 or 3 spots depending on games between the other three, that they aren't even a part of. I would much rather have my fate in my own hands then depending on others.

Exactly! In a year when we are rebuilding the OL, this will help.

There are so many question marks for a bunch of teams, but given the schedule, I think we have a good shot to repeat as SBC Champions.

We get a team that we know, a team that we beat pretty soundly last year. I know that they made big improvements, it will be fun to watch this rivalry build and play out back in the late season time slot it belongs in!

But given the bottom of the conference programs we are going to play, that we avoid the other 2 top four programs, Troy's rebuild, USA's chemistry experiment/reload of UAB (and we get them at home) - we could possibly even lose to APP and still be at least Co champs.

But we are going to beat App State again 05-stirthepot
USA may be the biggest conf. challange at home and outside of boone.
They've got plenty of time to work out there team chemistry before we play.
ULM played us pretty tight last year, the trip to Monroe could be a swing game for the conference.
And nobody is overlooking TX State.

I know predicting 8-0 in conference would be crazy. But looking at last year versus this year, if you had told me pre-season last year that we would do it in 2014 or 2015 and that I had to pick which year.. I'd have said 2015. What happens between now and 10/23 will be interesting.
If we can survive till then with no conference loss,

We will still have to face two big home games against TX State and USA.
I give Paulson Stadium the edge in those two!

A trip to Troy and a visit from GAST which we should win both.

Imagine our high going into the USA game, just after we knock off uga!

Hopefully our guys can stay focused that week to avoid a let down loss to the jags03-drunk

RE: First Pre Season Mags Are Out
I want some of you to understand that Troy isn't in a "rebuild" year with our coaching change. Same systems, just different approaches. The offense is going back to more of an uptempo style and the defense is still a 4-2-5, but it will be more multiple up front...well, just wait...you'll see what I mean...03-2thumbsup

I think at ULM will be a big challenge for us because that is the game after we travel to Idaho. That is a lot of travel in 1 week. Hopefully we go up big quick on Idaho, and are able to rest starters for most of the second half.

wow, you if you believe 4thoption, GS should be a favorite to make the 4 team playoffs, I guess I'll be pulling for you guys against the likes of Alabama, Ohio State, and Oregon! Seriously, as good I think App will be IN MAY, and how its so easy for me to predict they should finish in the top 2, I know, even though we will be favorites in almost every game, the GS, ULL, and Ark St games are going to be wars, that will probably be decided in the final minutes of the game. I know, on paper, that App is going to be really, really good, but so is ULL, Ark St and GS, and TX State, USA, ULM just waiting in the wings to take the place of any top teams that stumbles. Honestly, one thing I know will happen is one or maybe two of the top teams are going to stumble, and someone, like a Tx State is going to be better than advertised and take their place at the top, going to be fun!!

I was tongue in cheek. There was a guy who used to post similar statements to mine all year last year, and then disappeared when stAte's season didn't live up to his expectations. I guess not many got the joke unless they remember this other poster I'm talking about.

The problem is they won't have Klugey, McBurnett, Frye or Saint Amour blocking for them. With one starter returning (you got a break with UAB transfer Rosco Byrd who started at LG for the Blazers) - IF your roster info is correct - the remaining OL returns only 5 starts and limited action in 15 games. I just don't see the holes being there for Breida and Ellison this year.

Trust me, it would be a happy day in my household if that were to happen.

As for my Panthers...I'm hoping we surprise a lot of folks this year. We've gone through two years of people saying, "Oh, they're going to upset someone, it's gonna happen, just wait..." And then we haven't. I think that this year, the armchair pundits are going to let their guard down and start actually waiting for us to prove something. I'm thinking we can shock some fans, now.
