RE: Houston: Serious Question
I think the thing that bothers many of schools in Texas about UH is that we are the new kids on the block (founded 1927, football in 1946) and we have always challenged the good old boy system. Coog High was always referenced due to our academic rankings but how can one really hate on a school whose sole purpose was to provide for working class Houstonians (who can't graduate in 4 years or transferred in from a community college). My favorite dis is the commuter school tidbit. Yes because not every kid can afford to live in a dorm so they choose to live with mom and dad while they gain an education, maybe not becoming as much of a die hard Cougar football fan as we'd like. (Mind you we have the 2nd largest housing program).
Currently we have a female foreign born President, no other Texas school can say that. She isn't taking a back seat to the powers at UT and A&M and has created quite a few enemies along the way. She knows what UH can be and is making it happen.
Unfortunately many students/alumni aren't as engaged and haven't realized what a great University UH is. That is where we are lacking compared to the A&Ms, UTs and Techs of the state. It is slowly changing and you're seeing more Cougar pride than ever before. We have a lot to be proud of:
-UH pretty much forced the racial integration of SWC football and we weren't even a member yet.
-Once joining we literally knocked the door down and won a couple championships.
-First ever nationally televised college basketball game- UH vs. UCLA
-Most attended college baseball game (still stands)- UH vs. San Diego State
-5 Final Fours
-3 of the Greatest NBA Players of All Time (2 in the top 10 scoring leaders)
-One of the greatest Olympians of all time
-A Heisman Trophy Winner
-Politics, Pop Culture, Famous Alum
As for the whole Tech argument. You might have more fans but we have a winning record against you in:
Football
Basketball
Baseball

Well said but Tech is only 4 years older. I love the excitement and I hope Herman energizes the entire UH fan base. Herman walked into a great situation and I hope he sticks around after he has success.
Those recruits will look foolish if he leaves for a "better" job.

this is built after miami's movement ...and their recruiter/coach left before the actual success
