Early 2015 C-USA vs G5 Predictions
While we're waiting for the UAB news, let's engage in a little pre-season prognostication in terms of OOC games. Last year, C-USA did well in its performance against other G5 schools, and it will be difficult to repeat that feat this year. There are some tough match-ups and the rest of the G5 is going to be gunning for us, since we did well last year.
This year, C-USA teams play 17 other G5 teams. So what is your overall prediction as it relates to C-USA wins and losses vs. this group of teams.
My prediction? 11-6
What's your prediction?
For reference, here is who we play from other G5 conferences:
Charlotte: @Georgia State; Temple
FAU: @Tulsa; Buffalo
FIU: @ UCF; @UMass
LaTech: ULL
Marshall: @Ohio; @Kent State
Middle Tenn: None
North Texas: @SMU
ODU: @Eastern Michigan; Appalachian State
Rice: Army
Southern Miss: @Texas State
UTEP: @New Mexico State;
UTSA: Colorado State
WKU: @Miami (O)

Lol, that's not far from saying best case is 17-0, and worst case is 0-17.
My guess...
Charlotte 0-2
FAU 1-1
FIU 1-1
LaTech 1-0
Marshall 2-0
North Texas 1-0
ODU 1-1
Rice 1-0
Southern Miss 1-0
UTEP 1-0
UTSA 0-1
WKU 1-0
I get 11-6, and the toughtest call was crediting FIU with a win at UMass.

Given that evidently 11 of those games are road games and only 6 are home games, just based on that alone, I think it may be a tough road (pun intended) for CUSA to finish above 500. Hope I'm very wrong.

I come up with about the same. I expect ODU to beat EMU and AppSt is a push for me at this point. They return a lot and seemed to be cruising at the end of the season last year but we'll be at home and have some good pieces returning as well.

My thoughts as well. Hopefully we are not too banged up after the NC state game. Atleast both of the games are at home.

north texas game at smu may very well be a 'home' road game...but with the excitement and work that morris has brought to smu and the fact that north texas doesn't have a qb...this game will be a tossup.

I too went the other way with the FIU@ UMass game, but I have ODU squeeking by App. St. at home. So, still 11-6.

If UMass has any WRs at all Blake Frohnapfel will carve FIU up. If Marshall wouldn't have had Coto the last 4 years, Im pretty confident that Froh would have been the man behind center in Huntington.

You're right. My mistake. I misread fbsschedules.com. I had it as a win, anyway, this will just make it a bigger win...although Miami (O) will be decidedly better this year. This is year 2 -- I believe -- with their new coach, Chuck Martin, and he seems to be doing a creditable job in rebuilding. They played us fairly well last year at their place.

We should be 2-0, although we will be coming off a campaign against NC State at our house and App State will be coming off a campaign at Clemson, that is the reason why I say we should win against App State. We simply have more experience playing against P5 teams and this year we will be about the same size as them on both sides of the ball. That is why I say we should be perfectly health coming off the NC State game. If we beat the Wolfpack, look out App State!

Not saying there's no way what you said is going to happen. But consider this UMASS was never as good as ODU was in our short FB history and even if Frohnopel was as good as Heinicke their defense is not something to chest thump either. FIU Came to ODU while TH was a QB and it took a tipped interception and last second Field Goal to grab the win from FIU. They aren't as weak as everyone think they are. Most of us in the conference give the FIU and FAU very little to no credit mostly because of not knowing what they actually are. After seeing them in person i changed my mind, they are no push over's.

I actually think FAU will have one of their best teams this year, and I see them being just a half step back from Marshall and WKU in the east (I'm not as sold on MTSU this year as others here seem to be). FIU started a lot of Freshmen with Turner in his first year. I think they are trending toward respectable this year, but they are still ab other year or two away of trending upward to be where a Florida team in this league needs to be. But the FIU teams the past couple year have not been the least bit impressive.
To the ODU-App State discussions, I feel like App State was trending at the end of last year toward becoming a top 20 G5 team, and I can't say the same about ODU. I expect App State is probably in a bit better position heading into the year, so that's why I went that direction in my prediction. Long term, I am 20x more excited to be in a league with ODU, but as for 2015, it will feel to be a slight upset to me at this point if ODU would win.

Why would it even be a slight upset. Won't you be happy if your conference mate wins an OOC game. I definitely agree with you on the App being in better position though. We lost our start QB and are running thin at QB at the moment with unproven QB's while our defense will definitely be improved but on the other hand APP is returning most of their starters from last season who finished it flying high. I hope our Frosh QB Bentley gets us the win.

WTF are you talking about. Im talking about FIU not ODU. Read man Read and understand what you are reading.
But if you wanna keep talking then I think IA showed TH was just an avg IA QB and the reason he was not recruited for any IA program. He may have won the Payton award in IAA and been the best player. Marshall had a Payton award winner in 1992 (He lead Marshall to the IAA title that year over Youngstown State) in Michael Payton, doesn't mean I would have wanted him leading us into IA.
