I respectfully disagree with you and the AAC. Tulane Coach David Pierce should have been named AAC Coach of the Year. He took a program out of the gutter with his great staff and brought us to an NCAA at large bid after six years of stagnation with the same team that had a losing record last year.

'biased opinion'

I actually didn't know if there was precedent for it but I figured in the internet's immeasurable scope that it would be appropriate.

Congrats to Coach Godwin, the team and the fans on a great year. Well deserved!

I look forward to battling for years to come with our ringer, Coach Pierce.

Argument could have been made for Pierce, Godwin, or Whitting.

We lost 5 starters to injury, including an All-American pitcher and our closer, and still won the conference. With only 1 first teamer, no less. Says something about Whitting's coaching ability to take so many "unremarkable" players to the AAC title.

And 6 second team selections, forgot about those didn't you.

This is Cliff's first season in HC jobs taking over a team that missed the regionals two years in a row. We lost most of our pitching, including a first draftee. Had several players leave/dismissed, had some injuries as well. We are 5 short of a full roster and aren't even at the scholarship limit, playing many 21 players. In what many thought was a throw away year he guided to the team to a second place finish, 1 out of first and positioned for a regional birth. That's a heck of a year by any standard.

RE: ECU's 1st year HC Cliff Godwin named AAC's Coach of the Year
I think all 3 first year coaches had amazing years. ECU, Tulane, and USF all appeared to make great hires. I was originally worried that AAC baseball wasn't going to be as strong as CUSA was, but it appears I was wrong. I think you could make a good argument for any of the 3 newcomers or Houstons coach as COTY. I don't really know what the expectations were at USF and Tulane preseason but I know I thought anything over .500 this year for ECU would be decent so to win 36 and finish 2nd in the 3rd rated RPI league was quite an accomplishment.

God stop drinking the koolaid.

One thing I haven't seen any of our fans touch on is that this is probably the best season we've had with the new bats and it coincides with the new ball being introduced. We always seems to do better when HRs are easier to come by. We'll be scary good once Cliff gets his own players in here.

To add to PR2012, we finished 2nd, 1 game out of 1st with ONLY 2 all conference selections. Think about that!!!

This is funny. The dude is making the case for his coach just like ECU fans are defending their coach.

Congrats to Coach Godwin!

Cliff deserved the honor and has got this team rolling and gelling together. However we did finish 2nd in a league we were pre season picked to finish 3rd in where as tulane finished 3rd in a league they were predicted to finish 6th.

In no way is that tulane fan drinking the kool-aid, the same way no ecu fans are with backing coach godwin. Purple reigns just looks stupid as usual thats all

I'd be curious if any of those 6 were on pre-season all-conference lists. I know that 3 of the players lost were on the pre-season all-conference list. If the 6 second team all-conference players were not on any pre-season honors lists, you'd have to give Todd and his staff significant credit there. That said, I was not aware of all the issues you listed in detailing ECU's baseball troubles this year. Very impressive job by the coach to overcome all that and still be in the championship race until the very last game of the season. Excellent job.
